FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Diane Bain

The combination of comfort and couture can often seem like a mismatch in the making. However, this week’s Fashionista demonstrates that combining what’s practical and posh is not only possible, but also stylish.

This week’s Fashionista creates a fall-friendly palette by pairing vibrant earrings with earth-toned accessories. She contrasts the asymmetrical cuts of an infinity scarf and olive green vest against the streamline silhouette of dark gray denim and coordinating lace-up boots. Her peacock-inspired earrings in glowing gold and red hues interrupt the earthy palette, adding both character and color to this Fashionista’s ensemble.

Diane creates eye-catching combinations by pairing cozy knits with rugged footwear, a match that is not only practical for fall, but unique in appearance as well.

CollegeFashionista sheds some light on Diane’s personal style and what inspires her:

Name: Diane Bain

Major: Marketing and Communications

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What typically inspires your style?

Diane Bain: Nothing really too fancy, I guess. Normally, I just get inspiration from other people I see walking around the city or from the things I see in magazines.

CF: What is your favorite trend past or present?

DB: I really like the cuffed jeans. I don’t know if that trend is in the past yet or not but that’s definitely one of my favorites.

CF: What piece or pieces in your wardrobe do you think you couldn’t go without?

DB: I have a little green cargo jacket that I really like. It goes with a lot of different pieces and it’s great for the fall weather. That’s definitely something I wear a lot…and any of my cheetah print pieces.

CF: Do you have any advice for college students in search of their own personal style?

DB: Don’t be afraid to step out of the box. Don’t feel like you need to follow rules. Mix things up a bit, I guess. Just wear what interests you.

CF: What do you like most about fashion?

DB: It can really express who you are. There are no boundaries, no rules. It’s really just a chance to express yourself in any way you feel.

CF: Has living in New York City influenced your style at all?

DB: Yeah, it has. Basically anything goes here. But the city definitely discourages you from wearing sweatpants every day. Living here inspires you to try new things and be unafraid to dress up more, but you can still be you. There’s no pressure to follow rules or trends.

How To: Get this Fashionista's look by pairing asymmetrical cuts with cigarette leg denim, or add brightly colored jewelry to a muted ensemble.
