FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Emily Hatcliffe

It can be quite intimidating to many people to pair different colors together that do not completely “match.” A trend that has stuck around for a couple of seasons is color blocking. We all own multiple pieces that we purposely bought in bold and bright colors. However, now is the time to pair a few of them together in order to get an outfit that will turn heads!

CollegeFasionista: What are you wearing today?

Emily Hatcliffe: My outfit consists of bright blue Steve Madden flats, Express green stretch skinny jeans, a chambray button-down from Target and a studded wrap bracelet from Nordstrom. All great for a mild fall day!

CF: What are you favorite places to shop?

EH: Nordstrom, Pataya, Express, Urban Outfitters and J. Crew.

CF: Who are you favorite designers?

EH: Steve Madden, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors.

CF: Where do you look for fashion inspirtation?

EH: My friends! I love seeing what new clothes my friends are wearing and get inspiration on what I need to add to my own wardrobe. Some great pieces I have invested in because of the way my friends wore them are neutral colored wedges, colored jeans and studded jewelry.

CF: What is your favorite trend?

EH: I love chambray button-downs!

How To: In order to achieve color blocking without looking like you chose your outfit in the dark, you need to pick a two or three colors to play with and go from there. Start off with jeans in a bold color like royal blue or red. From there decide where you want to color block, may it be in your top, accessories or shoes. The key to looking polished and trendy is to not go over board, so stick to only two or three colors. With fall upon us, a bold colored scarf is a way to work in the color blocking trend!
