Staying cool in the summertime heat is one of the most difficult aspects of living in the city, but this Fashionista does it just right. Her striped shirtdress is the perfect go-to piece for summer and can be dressed up or down for almost any occasion. You can wear a basic piece like hers to an internship with a navy blazer and sandals or add a cream leather jacket with wedges for an edgy night look.

Name: Emma Tangoren

Year: Sophomore

Major: Public Relations

College Fashionista: How would you describe your style in two words?

Emma Tangoren: Simple and comfortable.

CF: What are your favorite places to shop in Boston?

ET: I love J.Crew for basics and layering pieces but Boston has some great boutiques. Mint Julep, Forty Winks and Crush Boutique are all amazing.

CF: What are your three must have pieces for summer?

ET: My Ray Ban aviators, these amazing J.Brand red cutoff shorts I just got and my House of Harlow Starburst necklace that I wear literally every day.

CF: Do you have any style advice for staying cool in the summer heat?

ET: Because of the heat, being comfortable is definitely the most important thing to consider. I like light linens to keep cool and denim and tops in lighter colors. Sometimes I rock a hat to keep my face out of the sun, my fav is the San Diego hat from Crush Boutique right now. Other than that layering to fit your work/internship environment is something to always keep in mind.

How To: To get this Fashionista’s simple and lightweight summer look find a striped shirtdress and accessorize with a playful necklace, a friendship bracelet, an oversized watch and a bow and arrow necklace like this one from ASOS. Add strappy gladiator sandals and cinch your dress at the waist with a skinny belt to complete your look.
