FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Erin McKay

While flipping through the pages of the textbook-sized September issue of Vogue, I naturally couldn’t help but notice the large variety and styles of knits being featured this season. Loose-fitting sweaters by Marc Jacobs were displayed amongst a fitted sweater dress by Valentino. Casual-chic is what comes to mind when describing this fall and winter’s must-haves. By combining a knit sweater and leggings with bangles and a feather hairpiece, this Fashionista shows you can be comfortable, but still look put together when going to class.  What more could a CollegeFashionista ask for?

Name: Erin McKay

Year: Junior

Major: Communication Studies

CollegeFashionista: Tell me about your outfit.

Erin McKay: Since it’s officially fall, I’m really in to legging and boots right now. It was a little cold when I woke up this morning so I decided to wear my new sweater.

CF: What’s your favorite store or designer? Why?

EM: My favorite store is Nordstrom because they have so much stuff you can get there. They have the best shoe department! I can get my tops, pants and makeup there too. My favorite designers are Betsey Johnson and Jeffrey Campbell. I’m dying for a pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes!

CF: What is an upcoming fall or winter trend that you can’t wait to try?

EM: I really want to try the oversized, long, chunky sweaters, but with tights as opposed to leggings. Maybe I’ll try it with knit tights or fashion tights. I still have yet to find a sweater that’s long enough and is still flattering though.

How To: Finding a cute knit sweater shouldn’t be hard with all the options available at stores like Topshop. Accessorize this casual fall staple item with some statement jewelry. Feathers are very trendy this season whether they’re on a necklace or hairpiece. An alternative way to wear a sweater this fall and winter is to rock a sweater dress! Just be sure to avoid dresses that are too oversized and have no shape, as they will create a less-than-flattering silhouette.
