FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Gracie Pearlman

A jean jacket is one article of clothing that I have never owned. The prospect of figuring out how to wear such an item has always intimidated me because as a huge jean fanatic, I always worried about what I would wear as pants. This Fashionista is an inspiration to all of those who struggle with the same problem as me. Gracie goes the extra mile by layering a jean jacket over a comfortable chambray button-down. In order to balance out what could possibly be a denim overload, she incorporates a big plaid scarf that is both a perfect fall item and a great accent to her outfit. Black leggings are perfect when paired with a denim top because they give off a laid-back feeling.

Name: Gracie Pearlman

Major: Undeclared

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: Describe your personal style.

Gracie Pearlman: My personal style would be some street-style inspired looks combined with some preppy-ish looks. Although, I don't really like to define someone's style based on categories. I shop at Urban Outfitters, J Crew, some vintage stores, so I guess my style would be a blend of different elements and types of fashion.

CF: Who are your style icons?

GP: My style icons are Sienna Miller, Michelle Obama, Grace Kelly and Rachel Bilson.

CF: Are there any current trends going on right now that you’re into?

GP: I guess for trends, I really like how everyone around here mixes patterns. I also think oversized everything is really “in” right now; scarves, sweaters, shirts, etc. I don't think following trends is how you make style though, so I don't really like to pay attention to that. It is more about what I think just looks good.

CF: What’s on your iPod?

GP: I have Mumford and Sons, Young the Giant, Van Morrison, Muse and then I have music like Justin Timberlake, NSYNC, Britney Spears and, most embarrassingly, Justin Bieber.

How To: When looking for a denim jacket, this Levi’s Trucker Jacket from Urban Outfitters is a great option. If you want to layer denim like Gracie, try this chambray button-down from Madewell. These Pixie Pants from J.Crew will add a finished and flattering touch to the denim tops and they are great because they can be worn with flats, boots or heels. If you're not feeling the jacket and pants look, why not change things up by pairing the denim jacket with a feminine dress? This Tulip Dress would go perfectly with some denim and riding boots.
