Finally, the heat wave that's overcome the East Coast has subsided and we can feel a cool breeze every once in a while. This means light cardigans can be worn at night again as well as Henleys and long sleeve shirts. This Fashionista was definitely celebrating the drop in temperatures when I saw her in Union Square. She's wearing a very well put together outfit with a chic skirt with a light cardigan. Her color palette is very simple and gives her a professional look that is perfect for a day at her internship while still allowing her to transition into an evening look that's not too dressy.
Name: Hayley Gilbert
Major: Advertising, Concentration in Sociology
Year: Junior
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your fashion sense?
Hayley Gilbert: I tend to stay with solid colors, not a lot of patterns. I accessorize my more basic outfits with antique jewelry, though. My grandmother hand makes jewelry for me out of old lockets and buttons, which I think make my style unique.
CF: What inspires your fashion?
HG: I love reading The Sartorialist because he photographs street style around the country. Seeing what real people are wearing inspires me more than runway shows do.
CF: What music have you been listening to lately?
HG: Recently I heard, Poliça, which is made up of two people from Justin Vernon's band Gayngs. A more summery band though that I love right now is Tanlines. The song All of Me just makes you want to dance!
CF: Where do you find the best college-friendly fashion?
HG: I find most of my style inspiration from Madewell. It's relaxed but stylish. It's a little expensive for a student budget but you can use your college ID for a discount!
How To: This outfit has one staple piece: the skirt. Add a simple white T-shirt and a cardigan to complete the look. Take a look at this pair of eyewear and this necklace for some accessory inspiration.
