As the temperatures drop, Fashionistas are digging into their closets for their warmest puffy coats, scarves and hats. Luckily, they can take sartorial tips from the fall runways. Altuzarra, for one, made outerwear the focus by pairing oversized parkas with slip dresses, trench coats with sweaterdresses and fur collars galore. This Fashionista plays with texture and color by pairing her puffy maroon J.Crew vest with a simple blue fleece and velvet dress underneath. Her red lips are an unexpected pop of color to her look.

Name: Jess Hackel

Major: English and History

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?

Jess Hackel: I think I tend to wear things that could be described as “pretty” usually lots of floral prints, lace and tailored pants. I’m never one to really dive into patterns, and I mostly stick with solids in order to have a versatile wardrobe everything can match with everything in my world! I wouldn’t consider myself much of an avid trend follower. I usually just wear what I like, and if it’s “in fashion,” then, hey, it’s in fashion!

CF: What are a few of your favorite stores in and around Boston?

JH: My vice is Madewell mostly because their inventory seems to be timeless, and, excuse the pun, “made-well.” Another wonderful place is Oona’s in Cambridge. It’s a thrift store that sells vintage pieces. I could spend hours in that small shop perusing through a timeline of clothing.

CF: Describe your go-to outfit for fall/winter.

JH: I’ve lately been gravitating towards my nude-colored blazer. I usually pair it with this purple button-down shirt, cropped jeans and nude ballet flats to match.

CF: What is on your holiday wish list?

JH: Probably another blazer or oversized sweater to survive the seemingly never-ending Boston winter.

How To: To get this Fashionista’s look try this army green puffer vest by J.Crew and this velvet shirtdress by Madewell. Accessorize with opaque black tights, black riding boots and a simple cross-body bag. If bright red lipstick is not your thing, try the bold color in a chunky knit scarf or this beanie from Urban Outfitters.
