FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: June Kowalewski

Autumn is finally here in Boston! Along with the changing of leaves, layering and pumpkin spice lattes comes the powerful gusts of Bostonian wind that leave you with 24/7 “bed hair.” I met up with this Fashionista on St. Mary’s Street where we were nearly blown away onto the MassPike! This Fashionista seems to have subconsciously channeled the wind with lightweight, windswept fabrics such as cotton and chiffon, and her signature feathered earring. She gives the bohemian ethereal aesthetic an urban twist with her black leggings and worn-in combat boots.

Name: June Kowalewski

Major: Political Science and Pre-Law

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?

June Kowalewski: I don’t exactly know how to describe my style other than comfortable and organic. If it isn’t comfy, I won’t buy or wear it. I stick with loose and flowy on top and slim on the bottom. And I will always, always accessorize with feathers.

CF: If you could raid a celebrity’s closet, who would it be?

JK: I would probably raid Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s closets. Is that too overused? I love their style. I love that they design cute clothes for JCPenney (Olsenboye) at really reasonable prices that are still fashion-forward.

CF: What are a few of your favorite stores and/or designers?

JK: I am obsessed with shopNASTYGAL.com. If you haven’t heard of it, you HAVE to browse it! AllSaints Spitalfields and ASOS are more of my staples it can be pricey, but it’s totally worth it.

CF: What are you looking forward to wearing this season?

JK: I can’t wait to get a full jumpsuit! I’m only 5-foot-4 and I’m nervous I don’t have the tall figure to pull it off, but I want to buy one for fall/winter. I’m also loving infinity scarves at the moment. I learned how to make my own, and I know I’m going to have a ton.

How To: To get this Fashionista’s look follow her “rule of thumb” of loose on top and slim on the bottom. She rocks a handkerchief top by AllSaints Spitalfields, but you can try the Olsens' StyleMint “Bixle” shirt-tail tunic in charcoal. Pair the tunic with black leggings or skinny jeans. In the spirit of Mary-Kate and Ashley, check out these Elizabeth & James wedge booties for a dressier alternative to combat boots. This Fashionista accessorized with a mocha colored infinity scarf from Urban Outfitters, her beloved feather earring and smaller pieces of jewelry from Etsy, antique shops and flea markets. If your feathered extensions fell out of your hair by now, reinterpret the trend with this fedora by H&M for a pop of color and a bit of feathers and bows!
