This week's Fashionista combines corporate and casual to create a springtime-ready ensemble that's up for anything. Sophomore Katherine Base says that many of her wardrobe decisions are based off the importance of flattering the body and striking a balance. Her cuffed boyfriend denim paired with a pastel, structured blazer and blouse do just this. Base combines the relaxed cut and vintage wash of boyfriend denim with the femininity of a rose pink blazer. Combined with a whimsical statement necklace and menswear-inspired gold watch, she integrates both ladylike and androgynous accessories. Finished with a pair of tortoise-rimmed readers, Katherine's ensemble is not only academically à la mode, but also an all-purpose look for every occasion from workday to weekend.

Name: Katherine Base

Major: English

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: Where do you typically look to for style inspiration?

Katherine Base: Probably just magazines or what I see on television.

CF: If you had to whittle down your wardrobe to five items what would they be?

KB: A watch, a blazer, my Jeffrey Campbells, any silky or chiffon blouse with a tie or bow and probably a pencil skirt.

CF: Is there a trend you're looking forward to wearing this spring?

KB: Pastel colors. Those are really in right now.

CF: What is the best style advice you've ever received?

KB: Dress to accommodate your body. Because I'm petite, I have to wear things that fit my frame. If I wear something flowy on top, I'll wear something fitted on the bottom or vice versa. So I dress to flatter my body.

CF: Has living  in New York City influenced your style in any way?

KB: Tremendously. I'm in the city all the time and I don't think I would know how to put things together as well if I didn't see so many people walking around in different looks.

How To: Get Katherine's look by pairing distressed boyfriend denim with a structured blazer in a feminine color. To contrast the relaxed fit and worn-out look of denim, add bold accessories in pastel colors like this Fashionista's statement necklace.
