Wearing layers is certainly a way to add dimension and interest to an ensemble. While tank tops, sweaters, cardigans and jackets are ideal for layering, this fashionable technique isn’t just limited to clothes. This Fashionista demonstrates that layering is also great for accessories with three different necklaces. Different colors, shapes and lengths make this otherwise simple outfit more chic. I loved the turquoise beaded necklace against her chic magenta shift dress. This color combination with a neutral pair of boots and blazer exudes perfection.

CollegeFashionista: Tell me about your outfit.
Lauren Cole: I’m wearing a blazer from Target and my dress is from Four Seasons. My necklaces are from Forever 21.
CF: What is your favorite store to shop at?
LC: My favorite store to shop at is Forever 21 because it has really fashionable clothes but it’s super affordable. They always have everything that’s on-trend and things that are similar to more expensive designer items.
CF: What is your must-have item for fall?
LC: Scarves are my must-have for fall. They’re a great accessory to a simple t-shirt and jeans. I have so many scarves in different colors and patterns!
How To: The key to this look is balancing bright colors and neutral colors. Urban Outfitters has an assortment of blazers in different colors to choose from. If you go for a brightly-colored blazer, pair it with a feminine lace shift dress in a neutal color. When sporting a neutral blazer, go for a bright shift dress. Shift dresses have a distinctly chic silhouette for any CollegeFashionista who wants to channel her inner Twiggy. To really make this look, layer different necklaces like these from Urban Outfitters or Nordstrom. The more different layers and colors, the better!
