As many of my friends know, I have officially declared my love for all things high-waist. Shorts, skirts and denim in a high waist are figure flattering because they extend one’s waist and trendy from drawing inspiration from recent runway shows like Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs. These designers have shown that sporting a high waist is all the rage this season, whether through tapered trousers or wide leg denim. I spotted this Fashionista walking to class rocking her high-waist jeans, a definite must-have for fall. Lauren Somogye: I’m wearing high-waist jeans from Zara with a black tank and white cardigan. I also have on a skinny red belt and a pair of black boots from Express.
CF: What is currently your favorite item in your closet?
LS: My favorite item would have to be the new boots I’m wearing today. I got them pretty recently from Express. I love how I can wear them out at night or to class.
CF: What is your main inspiration for fashion?
LS: I get a lot of ideas from the TV show Gossip Girl. All the characters have very bold styles and I would love to raid Blair’s closet. I love how she wears a lot of dresses and heels.
How To: Start by looking for a pair of great high-rise jeans. Urban Outfitters is the perfect place for not only high-rise denim, but colored too! If you’re feeling a little bold, try a pair of high-waist teal or red jeans for some color. Be sure to tuck in your top to really show off your waist. Lastly, as the weather is getting too chilly to sport your favorite strappy sandals, go for a pair of basic boots that are perfect for many different occasions.
