News flash! The skinny’s out! Here to replace the skinny trend are wide-legged incredibly flattering pants. Wide over the top bellbottom-esc pants have been seen all over by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Olivia Palermo. The wide pant creates this luxurious look that makes your bottom half look incredibly long and lean. With summer right around the bend this trend is perfect for looking sophisticated and stunning. These pants can be found in every material possible but jeans are definitely the most versatile. This Fashionista looked fabulous in her version of the wide pant. She was rocking the trend in a great dark wash denim. Pairing that with great spring colors she stood out amongst the crowd. Leah Vining: Thanks, girl! I got my wide leg jeans from Banana Republic. I'm a big fan of wide leg jeans because I think it's a classic look that many different people can pull off!
CF: What places do you like to shop at?
LV: I am a huge bargain hunter, so I find a lot of fun pieces to mix and match at Forever 21 and TJMaxx. I have the best luck when I'm not looking for anything in particular, and end up with things that are unexpected. I get more basic pieces to layer, like tanks, cardigans, and jeans from Banana Republic or J. Crew.
CF: What items do you splurge on the most?
LV: I don't usually splurge on many items, although shoes are my weakness. I love a great pair of wedges, bright-colored heels or bejeweled sandals. Also, I love accessories and scarves that can transform an outfit.
CF: What are you most excited to wear for this upcoming spring?
LV: Without a doubt, the trend I'm most looking forward to rocking this spring and summer is bright-colored jeans! I have a pair of red jeans right now that I always get compliments on. I also just bought a pair of lime green jean shorts to spice up my summer wardrobe! I want to add mint-green or purple jeans to my wardrobe next!
CF: As a senior what would you like to tell freshman not to wear
LV: Awhile back, someone told me that you only get one chance at a first impression when meeting new people, and it's your choice how you want to portray yourself, so that has kind of stuck with me. I would tell freshman to not wear sweatpants in public. It's so easy for people to judge you based on your appearance, so I make an effort to look put together everyday, which actually makes me feel more comfortable and confident.
How To: The most important key to obtaining this look is finding pants that fit you perfectly. Find a denim pair at Nordstroms they have multiple cuts and styles. For a breezy summer pair Gap has great linen pants that are light and comfortable. Kohl’s also has great looks for less their Jennifer Lopez line has great options for wide trousers as well. Pair this with either a statement top to dress it up or pair it a simple tank top and a cardigan. Accessories are a girl’s best friend and a big chunky necklace goes a long way. With this look you can dress it up or dress it down, feel free to have fun with it!
