This week's Fashionista makes boyish look beautiful with unique graphic tees, colorful accessories and chic staples. Sophomore Lilia Nikolova transforms her androgynous wardrobe into an art of self-expression by simply wearing what describes her personality best. With one-of-a-kind graphic tees and rebellious streaks of blue sprinkled in her hair, Lilia pulls her inspiration from every corner of her life from the skate park to the sidewalks.
Name: Lilia Nikolova
Major: Computer Science
Year: Sophomore
CollegeFashionista: Where do you typically find your style inspiration?
Lilia Nikolova: I've never liked super girly stuff, so I think a lot of my inspiration just comes from not wanting to be a typical girl, I guess. And I also just get it from music I listen to. I wear a lot of band T-shirts. I also do half-pipe roller blading, so I guess that's also where my inspiration comes from: the skate park.
CF: If you had to whittle down your wardrobe to five pieces, what would they be?
LN: Definitely jeans, Converse or Vans sneakers, a cropped shirt or a band T-shirt, a messenger bag and a plaid button-up.
CF: What is the best style advice you've ever received?
LN: My roommate is actually really into fashion and sometimes she doesn't approve of the way I dress, so she tells me to wear more color a lot. So definitely to incorporate more color and to wear something more structured, like a blazer.
CF: Has living in New York City influenced your style at all?
LN: It has definitely had an impact but I wouldn't say that my style has completely changed. I feel like I'm more creative with what I wear because I see all kinds of people on the streets and think “it's okay to do this” and try new things.
How To: Get this Fashionista's look by pairing a vintage graphic tee with colored denim. Try a monotone tee with bright or pastel denim for this spring.
