Over the past year, there has been a resurgence of one of my all-time favorite college trends: the backpack. Here is an item that can look polished and oh-so-chic, while at the same time serving a most important function. For all of you out there who are suckers for trends that are both fashion-forward and purposeful; this trend is definitely for you. Today's Fashionista shows us how, by sticking to polished pieces, you can rock the back-pack trend (which, by the way, she told me she had bought for six dollars!)
Name: Lisa Zhang
Major: Psychology
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: What are your favorite pieces in your closet right now?
Lisa Zhang: At the moment, I'm a big fan of boxy beige sweaters and sheer black collared shirts.
CF: Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
LZ: I shop at the usual fast fashion stores, like Zara, H&M and Forever 21 and thrift stores.
CF: What's your take on campus style?
LZ: I personally think that trends don't really tend to manifest themselves on campus, and that high fashion doesn't usually intersect with campus style. I don't really draw my inspiration from high fashion. I think that's what makes the style here on campus unique.
CF: What's your fashion philosophy?
LZ: Always wear: something tight, something loose and ankle boots.
How To: When searching for the perfect backpack, look for durable materials — after all, you'll be carrying your books in there! I am personally a big fan of Roots' collection of leather ones. As for the rest, this look is relatively easy to re-create: dark jeans, tons of layers and ankle boots like these from Steve Madden.
