The military-inspired style trend is really a big hit this season between cargo pants, olive green army jackets and rugged combat boots. Despite this Fashionista’s bright red and pink floral dress, she first caught my eye by what she was wearing on her feet. The unexpected combination of combat boots with the perfect amount of edge and a girly dress reminded me of previous looks I’ve seen on Jessica Alba, Kate Moss, Rachel Bilson and Dakota Fanning. It was refreshing to see such a mix in styles and I can’t wait to see what else there is to offer for this season!

CollegeFashionista: Tell me about your outfit.
Samantha Olis: I’m wearing a red and pink dress I bought this summer and vintage combat boots. I wasn’t sure if the two went together since I usually wear my boots with jeans and a tee shirt, but I decided to try something a little different. I like the girly edge the dress added to the outfit.
CF: What’s your must-have item for fall?
SO: A leather jacket or a blazer would for sure be at the top of my list. I always wear them to class or out with jeans or a dress.
CF: Where do you get you main inspiration for fashion?
SO: I look at blogs sometimes, but otherwise I get fashion advice from magazines and my friends.
How To: Combat boots can go with anything from leggings, to tucked-in jeans, to lacey or floral dresses. Look for a distressed leather pair in black or a shade of brown from Steve Madden. Keep yourself from looking too harsh by adding a girly dress, top, or accessories. A sparkly necklace or a bright dress with delicate details would balance perfectly with combat boots for this fall.
