FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Taylor Thompson

There are few things that I love quite as much as a big, bold floral print. Whether it’s in a jacket like this Fashionista’s, a skirt or even a pair of shorts, the eye-catching pattern immediately sucks me in. I stopped her to chat about her unique style, and quickly realized that not only is she fashionable, but she’s also innovative with her pieces. The floral of the jacket is actually the lining! She just decided to wear it inside out and let the bold print shine.

 Name: Taylor Thompson

Year: Junior

Major: RTF

CollegeFashionista: Do you have a style icon who you draw inspiration from?

Taylor Thompson: No, but I worship Nylon magazine!

CF: What is one of the best purchases you’ve ever made?

TT: I was in California at this vintage shop once, and I got this leather jacket with fringe on it. It was like a cowboy/Indian style leather jacket. I got it for about ten bucks. It was genuine leather, but it was one of those places where you can haggle. I love that jacket; I wear it all the time. It’s a little too hot right now to wear it, but that was a good buy.

CF: How would you describe your overall sense of style?

TT: Oh man. When I was little I grew up in Canada, and when I was in grade 9 or 10, my friends and I used to dress really funky, really crazy. And I moved to College Station, Texas when I was 16 and everyone there just wore like a T-shirt and jeans, and I was the weird kid in school because I was wearing these bright patterns and colors. Style is a way you can express yourself in other means. I don’t ever want to look boring. It’s so hard now because, while it’s great Urban Outfitters has gotten really popular and now everybody is trying to dress in this style, you’re also like, “Alright, well that’s cool but how can I jazz it up a bit?” I like just to keep things jazzed up I suppose. You just have to keep things interesting every day.

How To: To get the look, pick up a jacket with a bold floral print. Here’s one from ASOS, or you can take the time to scour for some awesome deals at the many resale and vintage stores around the city. Pair it with an animal print shirt like this one from Urban Outfitters, and this simple, yet cute, outfit is ready to go. Here, she also gave it her own personal touch by wearing her riding boots. Even if you don’t ride, the boots can make a great addition to your closet!
