FASHIONISTO SPOTLIGHT: Jimmy Bowen

Getting sucked into the indefinite bad weather spell gracing Lehigh Valley causes many Fashionistas/os to go into hibernation. Luckily, I was able to catch up with this Fashionisto leaving his lab looking dapper despite the gloomy weather. His bright cotton button-down first caught my attention (a nice alternative to the recent flannel craze), which he pairs with a timeless charcoal peacoat. This Fashionisto’s use of a gray jean, accompanied by a nice leather sneaker ties together his whole look, giving off a classy-casual vibe. The tailored nature of the outfit is refreshing to see amongst the increasingly standard winter uniform of sweatpants and puffy coats.

Name: Jimmy Bowen

Major: Pre-Med/ Biochemistry

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: How do you find a balance between being well dressed and comfortable?

Jimmy Bowen: I try to find clothes that look nice by themselves so I don't have to wear a lot of layers. Some of the classrooms here get really hot and I'm way too lazy to take off a ton of layers when I get to class. Also, as a science major I can't wear shorts, so I tried to look for nicer jeans or khakis that are soft and comfortable that can withstand hours in the lab.

CF: What's your favorite article of clothing and why?

JB: Probably my peacoat. Lehigh winters get really cold and windy so I needed a coat that kept me warm, but I didn't want to wear something bright or puffy.

CF: What advice would you give to other Fashionistos out there?

JB: Keep it comfortable but also somewhat classy. Last year during the winter I wore sweatpants and sweatshirts almost everyday. This year I'm trying to put in more effort and so far I think it's going well!

How To: To get a classic look like this Fashionisto's, making a few investment purchases are key. By finding the perfect coat, like his from Kenneth Cole, you can instantly make the most casual outfit more presentable. Simply pair the jacket with a preppy plaid shirt like the ones from J.Crew, and a nicely tailored pair of jeans. Finish off the look with a pair of nicer sneakers like his pair from ALDO and you’ll be racking up date party invites in no time!
