HIGH SCHOOL FASHIONISTO: Crossroads School, Santa Monica

In my opinion, men do not receive enough credit in the fashion world. Don’t get me wrong—some guys don’t try to dress stylishly at all and wear college sweatshirts, athletic shorts, high socks and Nikes. Some guys though, really raise the bar and stand out from the rest.

At Crossroads, a Santa Monica based high school, menswear is split between the athletic guys and the stylish guys almost evenly. A couple of things now trending for them this season are flannels under pullover sweaters, printed short-sleeved button downs, cropped skinny jeans and loafers.

What many don’t realize is that men follow the trends just as avidly as women. They may have even started the collar shirt trend, as well as wearing the collar under sweaters.

Hair, too, is a big factor. Just because a guy’s hair isn’t as long as a girls, doesn’t mean he can style it just as well.  Straight, curly, dreadlocks—men can do it all, including accessorize with cool shades and hats.

Whether you’re a girl or a guy, fashion at Crossroads is highly regarded. It’s a subject talked about by many, as well as practiced by both genders evenly.

I interviewed Elliot Glickman, an 11th grader attending Crossroads, about his style.

CollegeFashionista: Knowing that the summer is in full swing, what is your go-to look for summer?

Elliot Glickman: Probably Hawaiian shirts and vintage looking band T-shirts. Not very original, but there’s a huge variety.

CF: When do you usually pick out what you’re going to wear to school?

EG: The night before is always a great idea, but I’m usually to lazy to do that. But even though the morning is a rush, I still find a time to put together an outfit.

CF: Where are your favorite places to shop?

EG: I like Supreme, J.Crew, Urban Outfitters, Topman and Civilianaire.
