LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Perfectly Patriotic at Pride

The Pride Parade is one of the biggest events in New York City and I wanted to find the perfect Fashionisto when I was there. It didn’t take me long at all to find this one! I liked how he demonstrated his pride in a different way than the other people I saw walking. In a sea of neon rainbows, this Fashionisto looked toned down. He showed not only his pride but also a little patriotism, dressing head to toe in red, white and blue!

His sneakers are like Keds but not really. Despite their short lifespan and subpar quality, I can’t help but love those cheap plimsoll shoes you get at stores like H&M, Urban Outfitters and Target. They’re so reasonably priced that by the time you have to dispose of them, there is no guilt. They also happen to be sold in pretty much every color and print. Pizza print? Check. Polka dots more of your thing? Check. This Fashionisto got his from H&M and they look perfectly worn in, making for comfortable walking shoes. These are perfect for when you’re running up and down city blocks trying to find your friends or the perfect parade viewing spot!

The weather was so humid that after just four hours of walking around, I was ready to go back home and shower! I guess wearing a silk blouse and denim cutoffs was not the best idea! There aren’t many options for fashion when you have to worry about 90% humidity and many fewer when you have to worry about staying out to savor the all-day festivities. This Fashionisto went for the basics: a lightweight cotton vintage tee and some athletic shorts. To complete his possibly unintentional patriotism, he chose darker color shorts to contrast his soft blue sneakers. Partaking in the color trend of the past year or so, he went for shorts in an oxblood color. I’m not complaining, though! I absolutely love it when guys wear this color and I hope the trend maintains its steady momentum.

The best part of this ensemble is his shirt. The Supreme Court just announced that gay marriage is once again legal in California, and many more states are on their way to finalizing laws allowing same sex marriage.  New York is also one of the 12 states with legalized gay marriage. Wearing a T-shirt with a message is a great way to show your pride without breaking out something super bright. In a sea of colors and neon, it was great to see a more neutral, subtle ensemble.

To top it all off, who doesn’t love his patriotic headband? I think I’ll be stealing his idea for the Fourth of July festivities coming up!

Hint: Be simple and unconventional. Wearing a clever tee will get you tons of compliments.  I find this shirt to be pretty neat! Next year at the Pride Parade, looking cool and collected will make you a stand out!
