When I started my semester writing for CollegeFashionista, I made a list of fall fashion shows, favorite blogs and photographs for inspiration during my semester writing for the website.There was one fall show in particular that I wanted to feature and have kept an eye out for on campus: the Dolce&Gabbana fall 2011 show. Brightly colored pants, shoes, blazers and graphic Mickey Mouse and Coca-Cola T-shirts graced this season’s runway, an alternative to fall’s hottest colors of the season. Throughout the semester most of the men I found on campus corresponded well to the links I had brainstormed, all except for the Dolce&Gabbana fall collection. With the semester winding down, I had started to get disappointed and thought about discarding the idea of this article all together.
This week’s Fashionisto fulfills my Dolce&Gabbana dream! Although not as colorful and vintage as Dolce&Gabanna's Milan fall fashion show, I would give this outfit an “Iowa City-appropriate” seal of approval. This Fashionisto paired a simple graphic tee with a blazer from Banana Republic; a great balance of street style and business casual. He wore dark wash jeans, Nike high-tops, and a flat-bill hat to complete the outfit. Dolce&Gabanna featured vintage looks with a cool factor, incorporating stylish corduroys and bright sneakers to make the outfits stylish and colorful without getting too gaudy. This Fashionisto takes away from Dolce&Gabbana by sporting colorful shoes and a bright hat, all while keeping a neutral palette for his top and bottom to offset the pops of color.
To copy this Fashionisto’s outfit, start off with a similar T-shirt, like this graphic tee from H&M. Drawing inspiration from Dolce&Gabbana’s collection, I found similar graphic T-shirts of the iconic Mickey Mouse and Coca-Cola brands, coordinating corduroy pants from Urban Outfitters and an L.L. Bean plaid blazer. Pairing dark wash jeans and a charcoal gray or black blazer works well too! A bright hat supporting a favorite team, like this Chicago Bulls classic snap back hat, and matching shoes will complete the outfit.
With holiday parties coming up this season, opt for a cool vintage look by taking inspiration from this Fashionisto and Dolce&Gabbana's colorful vintage ensembles for the fall season.
