As we near the last weeks of summer, it’s time for me to put my sundresses on the back burner and whip out my rain boots as I head back to San Francisco for another school year. As all of you in Los Angeles know, the 105-degree heat has been absolutely unbearable and I think we’re all ready for a cool autumn. Personally, when it gets this hot, all I can think about is being in close proximity to a pool at all times. Making a statement is the last thing on my mind — sweating in Jeffrey Campbells in a Saharan desert, no thanks. This week’s Fashionisto kept his cool in his favorite basic wardrobe pieces.
Breathable fabrics and light neutrals give off a cool vibe. This Fashionisto paired beige chinos with a gray crew neck T-shirt and a light button-down for the evening breeze. Neutrals are my favorite because it’s practically impossible to look mismatched. I’m in a phase where the only color in my look is my lips or some jewelry. He paired gray, beige and forest green — three totally different colors — while keeping the look coherent and balanced.
Hint: To get this look, try pairing different neutrals. Try these khaki J.Crew shorts with a wide-neck, black T-shirt. Finish the look with this collared forest green shirt, and leave it unbuttoned. For cooler nights, try this field jacket, and replace the J.Crew shorts with some chino pants.
