LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Duck, Duck, Boots!

As the fall semester draws to a close and students are relieved from the heavy weight of finals, we students are free to whole-heartedly enjoy the arrival of winter break. However, the rapid rise of students’ spirits comes hand-in-hand with the steady fall of already frigid temperatures. Luckily the hunting-chic GW population seems to be well equipped to stay dry during a white Christmas vacation while still looking sharp. After all, who doesn’t love walking in a winter wonderland?

I spotted this Fashionisto leisurely reading in University Yard and relaxing after finishing finals. I was instantly impressed with his warm and waterproof hunting-chic ensemble. His Christmas colored Rugby flannel shirt looks fantastic under his olive green Barbour quilted vest. The vest and flannel’s matching hunter green pigments mixed with the contrasting red of the shirt is a clever way to spotlight both pieces without deterring from the rest of the outfit. Investing in both of these garments is smart winter shopping since both items keep the body warm, is versatile with other layers, and always looks great! This stylish student chose to wear subdued grey J.Crew jeans on bottom as to not deter from the other bright colors in his outfit. He kept his jeans cuffed in order to highlight his statement footwear: his rugged-chic Sorel duck boots. From their durability in DC weather to their classic preppy look, these boots are a standout staple. Notice how he leaves the laces loose: this allows him to scrunch down his J.Crew camper socks and elevate the footwear to complete the look. He accessorizes his outfit with a neon orange Broner trapper hat that keeps him warm while looking cool.

Hunting for a similar kind of outdoorsy outfit? Luckily, there are many different places to score this style of durable duds. For a fashionable flannel, J. Crew, Urban Outfitters and L.L.Bean all have a wide assortment in tons of different prints. If you’re looking for an everyday pair of grey jeans, Levi’s and Gap offer a large variety of classic styles and washes. If you have a weak spot for designer denim, Nordstrom has a great selection of brands. For a vest that keeps your body warm and your outfit hot, Jack WillsOrvis and Patagonia stock a considerable range of styles and colors. For a more affordable version, try Asos. To acquire some dashing duck boots, L.L.BeanSperry Top-Sider and Ugg Australia design well made boots at reasonable price points. For the complementing socks, Wigwam, Topman and Ralph Lauren are good for wooly options. Finally, score a trapper hat from Rugby or J.Crew to complete the look.
