LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Keep It Simple

Famed couturier Christian Dior once ruled, “Simplicity, good taste and grooming are the three fundamentals of good dressing and these do not cost money,” and today’s Fashionisto is no exception to the rule. Whilst some people believe that fashion requires spending large amounts of money on clothes, this Fashionisto shows us it is possible to be stylish without the hefty price tag.

Today’s Fashionisto is effortlessly stylish by mixing basic staple pieces to create an easy-to-wear ensemble, perfect for every CollegeFashionisto. The burgundy T-shirt worn under an opened denim shirt is an everyday essential. Teamed with biscuit-coloured chinos, this staple item is a wardrobe must-have every student should own. Similarly, the classic Converse Chuck Taylor sneaker is the definition of an all-purpose shoe. It can be worn almost all year round with a variety of shorts, chinos or a fresh pair of jeans to suit any occasion.

Another aspect of this Fashionisto’s outfit that is worthy of mention is the nautical striped backpack, which is also an essential for any university student. Noted as the spring trend for 2013, stripes were showcased in many international catwalks. Tommy Hilfiger for example sent their models down the runway ruled in stripes from racing and nautical to regimental.

This week, keep it simple with the basics. Take inspiration from this Fashionisto and you too are bound to be a fashion success. If you follow the basic rules of Fashion and are careful to choose the clothes that suit your personality, you are sure to create something special.

Hint: Some may argue that simple is boring and predictable. Prove them otherwise with understated sunglasses worn with confidence like the ones on today’s Fashionisto.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Keep It Simple

Boston weather can be best described by Spring Awakening’s “Blue Wind”. It’s literally spring and summer every other day. So when it’s hot and windy the best fashion defense is simple. A T-shirt and jeans would suffice for the everyday man, but we’re Fashionistos which means simple compositions with attention to detail.

This Fashionisto has a very plain ensemble that looks easy going yet sophisticated. A blue oxford shirt is a must-have for any self-respecting man. The large beige buttons contrast the blue shirt, making it modestly fashionable without sacrificing its “easy” factor. Men’s clothing, especially during this warm season, is supposed to look easy.

Short-shorts used to be a joke I got made fun of in elementary school for. Now, they’re the sexy-chic that gives an instant stud factor to any man that can pull them off. Navy blue short-shorts are easy to pull off, but don’t be afraid to experiment with pastel greens and yellows if you’re a confident Fashionisto.

As always tie off the easy going look with easygoing boat shoes. Sperry Top-Siders aren’t going out of style anytime soon, so if you haven’t invested in a pair, go shopping stat!

Hint: Try this comfy cotton shirt from J.Crew and pick up these simple short-shorts while you’re at it. Tie the look off with Sperry's and for the debonair Fashionisto check out these swanky sunglasses by Tom Ford for when the Boston sun is extra bright.
