LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Rainy Day Blues

Here in Florida, we are used to the occasional tropical storm or hurricane crossing our path, but that doesn’t mean it has to put a damper on our outfits. It’s so easy to be swayed by the poor weather and take the day off from fashion, but being weather resistant can still be chic with a little effort, take this Fashionisto’s raincoat.

Raincoats are a classic staple, but this fall they’ve taken a decidedly athletic turn. Jumping ahead to the spring/summer 2013 runways, seen at Louis Vuitton and Prada, we know this trend isn’t going anywhere. When women’s fashion is focusing on bejeweled collars and silk appliques, menswear is taking a more sensible approach this season.

Where fashion meets function, this New York native Fashionisto managed to stay dry in a navy and red raincoat. He kept the rest of the outfit polished in dark denim from Armani Exchange and Nike sneakers.  With a primarily monotone outfit, the red is the perfect way to add a pop of color and balance out his head to toe look.

Another unexpected standout was his choice of backpack, but it shouldn’t be surprising – it really is the perfect accessory.  It’s something we bring with us daily to class, so it should say something about us, and his camo print backpack reflected his sharp yet practical aesthetic perfectly.

So next time the weather isn’t cooperating, think of it as an opportunity to step out in style!

Hint: If you go with a vibrant raincoat, keep the rest of the outfit simple — let the jacket be the focus.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Rainy Day Blues

A rainy day entitles us to wear comfortable clothing that will protect us from the rain — we wouldn’t want anything to get spoiled by it. Most guys would stick to their instinct and just grab a hoodie and go even if does not match what they are wearing; they would wear anything as long as they do not get wet from the rain.

I saw this Fashionisto today braving the rain with his blue sweater with his denim jeans and blue Checkerboard Era Vans. This Fashionisto caught my eye with his very blue ensemble which he wore from head-to-toe. Despite being a little dark, it matched the rainy weather just fine. I love how he wore the sweater as it is and did not layer it over a shirt, but what I love more is how he color-coordinated his whole outfit from the sweater down  to his shoes.

Next time you find yourself getting caught-up with what to wear because of the rainy weather, I suggest you take a cue from this Fashionisto and brave the weather with a solid-colored sweater. A hoodie works just as well if you match it well with something in your outfit rather than just layering it on. Be creative with color and mix-and-match it with your sweater, your pants and your shoes. If that’s a little too colorful for you, simply opt for a bright sweater that will define your whole outfit. Whoever said that you can’t be colorful in rainy weather?
