The only thing more attractive than a jock is a jock with style. We love that you guys are athletic, but that isn’t an excuse to wear sweatpants or lax pinnies every day! There are many easy ways to be handsomely dressed while still exuding your sporty swag.
I found this sporty Fashionisto walking through Kogan Plaza, headed to practice with some friends. I was immediately impressed with his way of blending practical athletic wear with preppy classics. He paired his navy blue Warrior lacrosse shorts with a staple Brooks Brothers oxford. The juxtaposition created by the casual athletic shorts and classic shirt makes this Fashionisto look like the ultimate sporty gentleman. His placement of the green and pink Lardini felt flower pin inside one of his oxford’s buttonholes is a fun extra touch to spice up the white shirt and add a touch of color. His Stubbs and Wooten slippers also add to his Ivy-League flair. The snazzy slippers act as a fashionable yet comfortable alternative to sneakers and sweat socks.
You may ask, how is debonair dude planning to play lacrosse in an oxford and slippers? Fear not Fashionistos! He is not planning to ruin his fancy footwear. This quick-thinking style setter is toting all of his sports gear in his timeless Ralph Lauren plaid weekend duffle bag. The camel leather borders and the canvas shoulder strap act as handsome details, thereby making the bag a masculine and unique accessory. A Condor military infrared hat, Seiko diving watch and the frat-shades/croaky combo finish off this jock’s frock.
Have yet to master this jock-meets-gentleman look? Luckily, all elements of this Fashionisto’s outfit are attainable. Lacrosse shorts are manufactured by almost every major sportswear brand and can be found at most sporting goods stores. Underarmour and Nike have many options and come in a variety of lengths and colors. A classic white button-down can be found anywhere from J. Crew to H&M. For some fun slippers, Rugby and Stubbs and Wootton are the best places to look. Del Toro also has many styles and has the option to make your own custom slippers! Ralph Lauren continuously stocks its classic duffel, offering it in a variety of sizes. The hat and sunglasses can also be found online.
Mother Nature has recently been having intense mood swings, going from scorching hot one day to incredibly chilly the next. I, for one, am excited about more layering; however, I want to make sure I milk this year's summer fashion as much as possible before moving into my fall wardrobe. This Fashionisto seems to agree as he pulls out a summer favorite: the fedora. The fedora, which was iconic from the 1920s to 1950s, didn't remerge into mainstream fashion until recently, barring its brief popularity with major pop stars like Michael Jackson in the '90s, and Fashionista/os cannot get enough of the accessory. The fedora gives any look a cool, earthy vibe while remaining current and fashionable. I love that this Fashionisto chose to pair it with a cardigan. The pairing makes a smooth transition from summer into cooler weather.
One of the things I absolutely adore about the outfit is its use of color. While the pieces in the outfit are summery, his actual color scheme is incredibly cool and it's what makes this outfit stand out. Lavender and gray have always made a great combination, and this is no exception. This Fashionisto takes it a little further as he adds on the light tan shade, from the fedora, and black giving the outfit an unexpected edge. I love how subtly he fuses the colors, focusing on small details make sure passerby get the full effect without being distracted. For example, this Fashionisto uses his cardigan's buttons and the band on his fedora to fuse the black into the outfit so that his black shoes seem perfect. Any outfit color is just as, if not more important than, the clothing choices used so make sure you take full advantage of the wide array of colors we have available.
If you're going to create a look similar to this Fashionisto's you should consider this twill American Eagle Outfitters fedora. We are transitioning out of summer straw hats because they will become a lot less accessible, and will be swapped in favor of other more seasonally approriate fashions, like twill. However, a piece that's always appropriate is the cardigan. If you haven't yet, you must invest in one. You can choose one similar to this Fashionisto's neutral-toned cardigan, like Banana Republic's high-quality gray cotton cardigan. If you are a fan of cardigans already but want to keep variety in your wardrobe you should try the shawl cardigan. The shawl collar is definitely one of my fall favorites because it offers such an interesting twists on fashion basics, such as the cardigan, the blazer or the sweater. The cool colors of this outfit are a constant reminder that we should take the advice of MIKA to “relax, [and] take it easy.”
