When I see the colors red, white, and blue I associate them with the American flag (and a bit of Ricki Stanzi). This fall, designers have been using these patriotic colors with a twistP creams, crimson, and navy blues.
Alexander McQueen’s fall fashion line featured a number of male models hitting the runway sporting navy and crimson color combinations just like our fashionisto is wearing here. What I love about these complementary colors is the contrast and subtle pop it brings to an outfit appropriate for the fall season.
This Fashionisto was spotted at my favorite coffee and study spot, T Spoons. It took about ten minutes and several pep talks to myself to actually go up to him but I finally mustered up the courage to compliment his outfit and ask him to pose for my first article on CollegeFashionista. Although this Fashionisto confessed he thought his outfit was grungy, little did he know, the use of his cardigan, like this one from urban outfitters, and color combination made this a fashion forward ensemble.
What made this outfit perfect for class or any casual endeavor was the put together yet laid back vibe it emulated. With cut-off shorts and his fold over high tops from True Religion, it made this fashionisto stand apart from the mundane outfit choice of athletic shorts, t-shirts, and backward hats I see everyday on campus. For those Fashionistas looking to try out this combination, check out 3.1 Philip Lim and alice + olivia’s use of the color this fall! For a look straight off the runway, I suggest this navy shirtdress tucked into high waisted shorts. Accessorize with a gold necklace and ballet flats for class or Steve Madden ankle booties, for a night out.
For a more dressed up use of this color combination, I took some inspiration from Alexander McQueen’s Fall show with a navy sport coat, a V-neck sweater under a light blue button-down shirt, khaki Dockers, and a skinny tie. Wearing this outfit to any business casual event is a sure fire way to look fashion-forward for the fall!
