LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: The Chambray Shirt

While perusing the LOFT website, I came across the hybrid of the classic button-down; the chambray shirt. Making its debut almost two years ago as the go-to summer item, the chambray shirt has continued to evolve over the seasons as a multi faceted piece. With the idea of chambray shirts on my mind, I could not help but notice this week’s Fashionisto on way to class.

Now that fall is in full swing, here at the University of Iowa, and Fashionistos and Fashionistas are swapping out their summer wardrobes, the chambray shirt is one article of clothing to keep in the closet all year round. The chambray shirt, although mostly worn in the summer months, is as versatile as ever with looks under bright blazers,  office attire, and for a night out.

To copy this Fashionisto’s look, start with the chambray shirt, I found a similar shirt from Urban Outfitters. Pair with red chinos and similar suede oxfords, like these. For those Fashionistos looking to dress up this shirt a bit, I suggest pairing the chambray shirt with rolled khakis and these brown dress lace-up shoes. To add a bit more depth to the outfit, using some strong statement accessories would be a great asset. Try on this fearless Fashionisto's bold bow tie on for size.

For the Fashionista looking into transitioning their chambray shirts to a fall wardrobe staple, any of these bottoms: a poppy A-line skirt, the classic khaki skirt, or, my personal favorite, a lace skirt over with opaque tights and booties, would be perfect for the fal season. For accessories a bib necklace, like this one from Stella and Dot , worn over the collar, an oversized watch, and stacked bracelets is just enough subtlty for this already statement making shirt.

With its versitility and easy-to-wear quality, the chamray shirt is slowly becoming a staple item in the closets of Fashionistos and Fashionistas everywhere. So, when putting away the shorts and summer wear these next few weeks, keep a look out for those items that can be still used in the fall season.
