STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Flower Power

As I sauntered through the Chicago Flea Market one hot Sunday, browsing through the amazing selections of homemade soaps and hand crafted jewelry, I spotted this Fashionista. Between her amazing (self-made!) headband and customized Converse sneakers, I knew I had to stop her. As it turns out, she was actually one of the co-founders of the market and the blogger behind Livin’ Like Larz.

This Vanderbilt student is the definition of a true Fashionista, blogging and organizing markets at the ripe age of 19! Her outfit and accessories were perfect for the hot day and blended elements of the three cities she works from: Chicago, Nashville and Los Angeles.

I love her headband the most, not only because it’s an awesome DIY project, but because I love the aesthetic of big flowers in hair. Perhaps it’s my inner hippie child that wants a wreath of flowers on my head or my love of Minnie Riperton and her Baby’s Breath wreaths, but I definitely will be ordering one of these.

My favorite sneakers are Converse and have been since I bought my first pair in seventh grade (which I still wear!). I love that they’re super comfortable, but also perfect for nearly every outfit from shorts, jeans and as this Fashionista demonstrates, dresses. Her customized pair is an even more creative take on the classic shoes since they express more of her personality and are truly original.

Lastly, I love her fishtail braid. When it’s hot, we all suddenly get the urge to chop our locks off to escape the unbearable heat. Usually, we don’t do this, but rather opt to find some sort of up-do the keep the hair off our necks. I love that this Fashionista found a more intricate and beautiful alternative to the ubiquitous ponytail. Whatever length or texture hair you have, challenge yourself to break out of your summer hair rut and incorporate more detailed styles to stay cool and keep your look polished. Don’t forget to add a flower wreath on top—don’t be afraid to adorn yourself!
