STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pretty in Pastel

For the past few weeks, I have been featuring Fashionista’s with bright, vibrant shades in their outfits. So, when I came across this Fashionista rocking some softer shades, I knew exactly what I wanted to feature this week. I absolutely love her multi-colored pastel top from Forever 21! She flaunts pastel shades throughout her whole wardrobe, which I love. She layers a pastel blue cardigan from J. Crew over her top and wears J.Crew blue jeans and pastel green Jack Rogers sandals. She finishes her outfit off with a little gold bling in the form of Forever 21 dangling gold earrings and a colorful floral bag by Vera Bradley! With shades that are as soft as pastels, it is okay to pair multiple pastel shades together, while vibrant colors paired together this way would be a little too much to handle in one outfit. I love how springtime she looks, and the colors are gorgeous!

If you’re not ready to flaunt the vibrant colors of spring just yet, pastel colors are the perfect choice for this season. They have been featured on the runways of Carolina Herrera as gorgeous, flowing dresses and the amazing Rebecca Taylor as beautiful skirts, dresses and tops! The item I currently have at the top of my shopping list is a pair of pastel yellow skinny jeans. I have been eyeing the yellow skinny jeans by Dorothy Perkins and the pastel yellow Pieces skinny leggings from ASOS. Remember, when buying colored skinny jeans, make sure you are choosing a softer yellow shade rather than the vibrant yellow shade some stores carry, allowing you to stay with the pastel trend!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Top it off with FUR

We've seen fur jackets on Fashionistas and even Fashionistos this fall season, but today's Fashionista is the first lady I’ve seen taking this luxurious material and wearing it on her head. Fur hats have popped up through history. An ushanka- which is a traditional Russian fur cap- was once worn for protection as a helmet during the Russian Civil War. The notorious fur bubble hats were often seen by the fancy schmancy ladies on their way to the theatre. Today's Fashionista's hat was a modern mix of both of these pieces with a unique, hipster flair.

This CollegeFashionista's headwear had the practicality of an ushanka to keep her warm. Going to class with a large fur bubble hat on your head doesn't seem appropriate. But the modification today's Fashionista made allows you to attend class and not look out of place. Don't get me wrong, I encourage you to be bold with your accessory choices. However, blocking the person behind you with your headwear might be a little Tavi-ish and not appreciated by your peers.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Classic Cool, Backpack Chic

While trends certainly add excitement to an outfit, sometimes stripping an ensemble down to the basics can be refreshing. This Fashionista does basic with a twist: adorable high-waisted skinny jeans and a cozy sweater accessorized to perfection with a braided belt, gold watch and simple jewelry.

However, this Fashionista’s most riveting accessory is her backpack. Upon hearing the word backpack, visions of washed-up JanSport bags usually come to mind. This fall the backpack has been reinvented – and what a relief that is! Lugging heavy books all over campus in one-shoulder bags that strain your back is so 2009.

Looking to replace your well-worn Longchamp tote? You’re in luck: this Parisian fashion house makes a backpack version of the Le Pliage bag that BU Fashionistas often dawn on Comm Ave.

For a classic look that is as practical as it is chic, throw that pack on your back and you’re good to go.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK

Growing up, a day did not pass where my father did not wear a watch. As a result of this, I grew up believing that every boy should always wear one. Not only do watches encourage you to always be prompt for appointments, but they also dress up an outfit. As girls we are fortunate enough to have endless options for accessories, however, boys tend to be much more limited in their selection. Watches are just the thing for boys because they can be worn with almost every outfit. Even though this fashionisto is only wearing jeans and a zipper up, just by simply throwing on his Breitling watch he instantly looks put together.
