STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Less is More

Accessories were made to be additions to outfits and a lot of people have the tendency to overdo them. With increasing trends of chunky necklace and bangles, it's hard to imagine a way to look cool with fewer accessories on. What some people don't know is that minimalism is also a trend that I have seen all over the place. Minimalism can help you shy away from the bold statement pieces and enter into a more casual daytime look. This Fashionista captivated exactly what I believe is the new way to rock accessories. She sports a basic patterned shirt and jeans, but manages to dress them up with just a few key items. Her MARC by Marc Jacobs metal aviator sunglasses, which can be found at Neiman Marcus, are a simple touch to your everyday class to your attire. Aviator sunglasses, give a laid back cool approach and on the fall days when the sun comes in and out, it always nice to block the rays in style. Another style of sunglasses that seem to never go out of style are the classic Ray Ban original "Wayfarer" sunglass, which can be found at many department and sunglass/glasses stores, but also at Ray-ban.com.

My favorite part of her outfit is something that many people wouldn't notice right away. It is this Fashionista's nail polish color and multiple rings. People wouldn't normally think that nail polish could be an accessory, but with eye-popping colors such as Ogre-the-Top Blue (from OPI's Shrek line) paired with vintage rings, it is hard to miss. Rings are another good way to wear jewelry without even looking like your trying. Those are the types of accessories that I aim to buy. I love when people can achieve a put together look that still looks almost effortless. This week look out for fun new nail colors such as OPI's new line. My favorite pick would have to be DS Mystery. It has the cool purple tones of winter, but a subtle shimmer that makes it still stand out. This can be found at most nail salons as well as at opi.com.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Accessorize

I’ve been talking mostly about clothing in my last few posts, so I figured for this week, or "Fashion Week on Campus", I’d focus more on accessories. No outfit is complete without them; from Michael Kors to Chanel, no runway was complete without handbags, shoes, belts, scarves, and jewelry. This Fashionista exemplifies the importance and power of accessories. In terms of clothing, she is wearing a pink skirt and a white tube top. While her clothes are both figure flattering and cute, they don’t scream, Fashionista! However, add a cute skinny belt, that gorgeous floral scarf, and some silver shoes and the outfit is magically transformed into a chic, polished, and fashionable look . Hair is another great way to accessorize your outfit: this Fashionista is rocking my personal favorite, a braid (Alexander Wang and Diane von Furstenberg both showcased braids on their runways this fashionweek). Braids are a great way to add spice to an outfit: check out this picture of Sienna Miller and Diane Kruger and be inspired to incorporate a braid into your outfit (Diane actually uses bobby pins for hers!) If fashion is the food of life then accessories are the hot sauce, so spice your outfit up with fun extras. Some of my favorites this week include a multi colored scarf from Anthropologie, this studded wrap watch from la mer and a pair of sexy chain and crystal earrings from Max & Chloe.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Accessorize

Now that school is underway and busy schedules are rolling, it becomes more difficult for the average college student to put much effort into how we dress to go to class. This Fashionista knew exactly how to spruce up this loungy 80s look by remembering one key word: Accessory. The floral theme present form head to toe works to complete her embellished look. A sequin black headband compliments to tie in the dark element she used in the leggings, and also blends nicely into her dark hair so as not to scream too loudly and make the top overpower the whole outfit. The chandelier earrings definitely add in the elegance aspect and help take the outfit from ultra comfy to something she could wear out on the town.

Lastly this Fashionista topped off, or rather bottomed out the floral essence present throughout by pairing it with the floral adorned sandal. The key really to making any simple outfit a fashion statement is to add an accessory. Check out this extravagant headband from Urban Outfitters, these gold medallion earrings from Pitaya, or this vintage style scarf from Fossil, a must have for your fall fashion line-up.

Hint: If both your headpiece and earrings are too bold, try making it less top heavy by downsizing either your headpiece, or pick a smaller earring like a stud. Also don't forget the power of scarves!
