STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Accessorize Your Outfit to Glamour-ize

When it’s chilly and rainy outside, there is nothing more appealing than staying cuddled in a warm bed all day and not dealing with the dreary weather. If you’re like me, and have a guilty conscious about missing class, the battle is figuring out how to dress for the inclement weather without compromising your fashion. I caught this Fashionista on her way to class on a chilly day with a chance of showers in the forecast. Her Marc by Marc Jacob sunglasses were clearly a necessity for the sunny weather while on her way to class, but the boots were ideal for the long walk when you know rain is likely at any moment. This Fashionista’s keen eye for accessories made her outfit multifunctional. Her beret was scooped up on a trip to the beloved Paris, France in charcoal gray, which is über chic. A wool beret can be scored in the U.S. at American Apparel in a rainbow variety of colors for only $24! The faux fur vest was a cheap steal at Forever 21 and a great accessory to layer for the fall. This vest is no longer available to purchase on forever21.com, but an adorable faux fur vest from Rachel Zoe's collection can be bought online at at qvc.com. I have seen girls all around campus wearing combat boots  in a variety of ways and are definitely a must have for the fall. Her black cashmere eternity scarf from shopbop.com is an accessory that finishes off any look and can be worn doubled like pictured, or worn long and open or even tripled to really provide warmth. Her nails are painted in one of Essie’s new fall 2010 colors called “Velvet Voyeur,” (a deep amethyst) an accessorizing touch that adds fall fun to a dreary day. Her large green cocktail ring makes the outfit more playful and adds a pop of color to a gray skied day (and revealed by this Fashionista to be less than $4 from Forever 21!).

Accessorizing has always been my favorite part getting dressed because it is like skipping straight to decorating the cake instead of dealing with the boring measurements during baking. Accessories are a great way to put your own voice into your clothing. They are fun, easy, colorful, most of the time cheap ways to add drama to an outfit and bring it all together. This Fashionista's bare minimums consists of Topshop black leggings and a 3/4 sleeve Alexa Chung for Madewell shirt. With the addition of accessories this outfit is able to go from ordinary to extraordinary. Accessories are the way to make the difference, make an old trend look new and redefine your look. I'm talking bags, jewelry, shoes, hats, scarves, sunglasses and even nail polish colors! Fashionistas, the next time you are headed to class, take an extra second to add style to your outfit with the addition of one (or several) accessorizing touches.

Hint: Do NOT pull your hair back into your beret. You’ll look completely goofy! Frame your face by leaving your hair down and placing the beret an inch or so past your hairline. If you want to cover your head more, make sure you have some bangs or a few strands around your face pulled out.
