The secret to smart, sophisticated style is no secret to this week’s Fashionisto. Instead of buying and tossing the season’s trendiest items at the turn of each new term, it’s much wiser to invest in classic, high-quality pieces that truly endure the test of time. There is nothing quite as charming as a well-tailored outfit complimented with minimal, rich leather accessories. What I love so much about this Fashionisto’s look is that if his picture was captured in black and white, it would be difficult to tell what decade it was taken. Although it’s true that even the classics evolve over time, a fitted blue blazer, leather band watch, and cap toe oxfords are three incredibly versatile must-have staples that have been “in style” for nearly an entire century.

This Fashionisto’s approach to fashion is one that gains him respect among peers, co-workers, ladies and style critics alike. This is because his look focuses on such timeless, classic rules of men’s fashion that have otherwise been forgotten on the average college campus. Today, the typical college guy considers blue-hen sweatpants and a matching tee to be acceptable ready-to-wear fashion. Men, for the most part, have forgotten how to dress appropriately on a day-to-day basis. It’s really important for guys to develop a fashion sense that effortlessly displays their realm of confidence and masculinity, without being too “over the top” (That’s right—you don’t need to rent a tuxedo.) There are many different ways to wear a collared button-up. A great way to wear this trend casually is with skinny jeans and a cardigan. You can either keep the cardigan buttoned or unbuttoned and then cinch in the waist with a skinny belt. Throw on a pair of flats and accessorize with pearl earrings and a dainty chain necklace for a cute, preppy look. Another great outfit for class is jeans or leggings with a button-up and riding boots. It’s very simple but is still put-together and stylish. Sometimes, less is more. If you want to stand out in a crowd, you don’t always need to wear a flashy outfit to grab others’ attention. Mixing basic clothing items together can create the perfect outfit that’s both comfortable and fashion forward. I spotted this Fashionisto walking to class in a simple and well-fitted look. His look caught my eye because it was neat, went together nicely and described him well: a simple, fashionable guy.

This Fashionisto created his look by putting together the most basic wardrobe essentials, jeans, a T-shirt, a jacket and sneakers. His varsity jacket is what stood out to me the most. It was basic yet different because of the all black style. Usually, I see people wearing varsity jackets with flashy colors, but this all black style gave him a classic look that was well put together. He matched his jacket perfectly with black leather Vans sneakers. This Fashionisto knows that black goes with everything yet he buys basic wardrobe essentials that are unique by choosing black leather. He is a true Fashionisto!

Achieving this look is easy and encourages you to complete your basic essential wardrobe. The part that will take some effort is finding basic items that have a twist, like this Fashionisto did. For instance, instead of just choosing a plain color, choose items with a different texture or fabric. Remember, it’s always wise to purchase items that go with multiple outfits so you get the most out of your money.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Back to the Basics

Oh, dating. The butterflies, sweaty palms, pounding heart – there's no feeling quite like when you first get to know someone. So, while conversation will most likely start with the basics, my style advice is for your outfit to do the same.

We've all been there, staring into the abyss of clothing hanging in our closets, hoping that, somehow, the perfect event-appropriate ensemble will magically arrange itself. Although it's easy to get carried away thinking about the variety of combinations that could successfully carry you into a great evening with that special someone, sometimes, as the saying goes, "less is more", and that is exactly what we have going on with this Fashionisto.

This look is classic, and a great option for any slightly dressy occasion. There are a few different elements going on here that I'd like to talk about. First of all, I think it's essential for every guy to own a pair of khaki pants. Be it chinos, cords, or just a nice slack, khakis create a platform for many different occasions. Black, as I've mentioned before, is a sharp neutral color and, in my opinion, one of the classiest looking colors on a man. A polo, button up, sweater or simple T-shirt would all work in this situation. One of my favorite elements of this outfit is the shoes. Loafers, again, are a fabulous go-to, and I especially love the gold accent on these pictured here.

Hint: To dress down this look, try a dark-wash jean instead with a tee instead of a polo or button-up. Banana Republic and J. Crew are known for basics, so look there for timeless, well-made pieces that will last.
