STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Buttons, Beige, and A Bike

A bike will get you to class or work, but who knew buttons could get you far too? Instead of leaving all the work to a couple colors or a graphic print, buttons, zippers and even velcro can lend themselves to adding an element of texture and surprise to any piece. This Fashionista let the buttons do the talking with a line trailing from the bottom to the top of her khaki, no-sleeve dress. Perfect for the summer weather, this dress is light and made of the perfect fabric. Buttons break up the unicolor dress and allow a Fashionista to be a little creative in how she wants to wear the dress. This Fashionista's dress is a perfect example of what's in right now, especially at 3.1 Phillip Lim's resort 2012 collection which showcased sleeveless short dresses with zipper detailing in a playful beige, white, and blood orange palette. Paired with a vintage brown purse, the same color as her buttons, Ray-Ban's and the ultimate Parisian accessory, a bike, this Fashionista knows that it's all the details. This button-up sundress at J.Crew gives the same effect as the one pictured here. Other ways to incorporate detail design are seen on this jean skirt from Urban Outfitters, which gets a break from the blues with eight buttons and a braid at the waist.
