STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Channel Your Inner Chanel

Often times, when I’m selecting my wardrobe, I tend to not put simple things together (i.e. a pair of jeans and a plain white shirt) because I’m worried I’ll look too plain. This is a ridiculous thought process because, let’s face it, there’s a lot more to your outfit than just a pair of pants and shirt. In reality, you can probably fix up any outfit you have with a few great accessories. Necklaces, shoes, bracelets, rings, hats, belts: the possibilities are endless!

This Fashionista proves how easy it is to dress up a simple outfit to look chic and trendy. She begins her pretty ensemble with a basic pair of black jeans and a cute, white sweater. These are great staple items to have in your closet, as it is super easy to dress them up or dress them down.

Her asymmetrical top is flattering and looks great paired with her tighter pants. This is all topped off with her yellow and black, Chanel-esque jacket, which completes her fabulous look. She adds a little edginess to her classical look by sporting some interesting, gray, studded loafers and plays off of the yellows in her jacket by wearing gold bangles and a gold big link chain necklace. Not to be disregarded is her doubled over black and gold watch.

What truly makes this outfit unique is its wonderful mix of classic style, like her blazer, with a more modern style, like her skinny jeans. The staple item here is the blazer, however. Chanel blazers are always in style,  but lately they’ve especially been on the rise. They’re a must-have in your closet. They are a great way to dress up any casual outfit, to wear to an interview, or even on a night out. This particular Fashionista’s blazer came from Gap, but there are many other places you can find them and in many other great color combinations too. You can take a blue or pink spin on the blazer, or you can try the pinstripe pattern. Or if you prefer solid colors, you could try this red one. Lastly, if you’re not so fond of the collarless style, you could always get a classic, collared tweed blazer.

When it boils down to it, you really can’t go wrong with anything that was inspired by Coco Chanel. She had the most beautiful, everlasting style which is why her trends will never go out of style. If you haven’t already, you should invest in one of these now. Even when you're not wearing it for the sake of a certain occasion, it’s always great to wear as a light jacket in the spring or in the fall.
