STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Classic with a Twist

When going to class, it is important to balance comfort and style. This Fashionista gets the perfect balance with her comfortable cardigan and top, paired with a tight skirt and oxford style shoes. I love her minimal color palette of creams and tans with a dark navy blue. This color combination can never go wrong and always looks classic and chic. I love how she also combines different fabrics and textures within her outfit. The soft jersey material of her cardigan and skirt combined with her silk tank top create a relaxed yet elegant look. Try this top by Mason by Michelle Mason to get a similar affect. The combination of jersey and silk within one piece of clothing is a unique approach to a simple long sleeve tee. Try pairing this top with a basic pair of jeans, or even a high-waisted skirt for a more refined look. The pictured Fashionista adds her own flair to this classy outfit with a pair of suede booties and an adorable pair of navy and white striped socks. To attempt a shoe-sock pairing of your own wear these BDG Lace-Up Sweater Cuff Boots with these adorable Missoni Zigzag Ankle Socks peeking out the top. I love how these little, simple accessories really give the outfit a personal sense of style. Her socks and glasses, paired with the entire ensemble really make the outfit her own. She casually slings an army green backpack over her shoulder and she’s ready to hit the books! For another alternative to the classic book bag check out this Rizzler Leather and Canvas Backpack Bag by Jeffrey Campbell.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Classic With A Twist

Without a doubt, one of the most amazing gowns seen on the red carpet at this year’s Academy Awards was Reese Witherspoon’s number by Giorgio Armani Prive. It definitely showed us all that classic and simple looks can never fail for a formal event. Sometimes, wearing simple colors, like black and white, makes more of a statement than something completely elaborate. When in doubt, sport a classic look with a modern twist.

Today’s Fashionista is wearing black and white, two colors that are perfectly simple. However, her printed top adds a touch of modernity to the outfit. She told me that she was on her way to go volunteer at a hospital, and had to wear something “business casual.” I definitely love her take on business casual, because it shows that it is possible to look professional and chic at the same time. Take your classically simple looks into the modern age by wearing a black skirt with a simple button-up top. Give this outfit a modern twist by pairing it with statement accessories, like a pair of stand-out pumps or a handbag. Obviously, red pumps are not very appropriate for something like an interview for a job or an internship. In that case, switch out the pumps for a neutral shoe style, and play up the modern look with an elegant, eye-catching accessory, like this watch.

A few months ago, I wrote about a stylish Fashionista who totally spiced up her timeless LBD. Black and white are versatile colors that can really make any outfit. It’s important to find your own way to accentuate these colors and to make them your own. This can be easily accomplished by simply pairing black and white pieces with a sharp accessory. Channel this week’s Fashionista and give your classic looks a modern twist!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Classic With A Twist

The next time you feel too business casual throw in a little color and print to liven up your outfit. Try adding a jeweled scarf from Forever 21 to give edge to a monochrome outfit. For a beautiful print try this Alexander McQueen geometric skull print silk chiffon scarf, and for a very affordable flash of color, take a look at this one from Old Navy. When making a statement with a scarf or an outstanding piece of jewelry, take care to keep the other colors and prints to a minimum in order to keep them from clashing with one another and dulling the effectiveness of the accessories.

Style On,

Ana
