There are still a few more weeks until the cold weather kicks in, so don’t hide your skirts in the back of your closet just yet. It’s time to layer up and detangle the bundles of pantyhose to make the most of the last bit of skirt season!

This Fashionista shows how a well-balanced color blocking combination can transform a traditionally summer-colored skirt to a fall trend. The bright shades of green and blue make this Fashionista’s preppy look unique and eye-catching. Sometimes during this change in season it's easy to default to black and brown hues—that is why I was particularly drawn to the bright colors in this outfit. The ruffled collar on her Tiffany blue blouse adds flow and texture to her outfit, and also demonstrates the collar-detailing trend this season. The addition of the classic tailored navy blazer enhances the versatility of this outfit for an easy transition from class to conference.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Blocking

“It’s Salmon, not pink”, answered this student rushing to his early morning class. It’s funny how some boys are still hesitant on the daring color pink because of the idea that it is reserved just for women. Although, I didn’t stop this LSU student for his daring choice of “salmon” colored attire, but more because he incorporated one of the newest summer trends: color blocking.

Color blocking combines two or more blocks of color on an ensemble, and can be pulled off by men or women! It could be for a top, bottom, dress, and even handbag or shoe. The color wheel explains what colors would be best to put together. Pairing primary colors (red or blue), or secondary colors (purple and orange) would be a good guide. This student pulled of the trend effortlessly casual, by paring a simple tee with different colored shorts perfect for school days.

The style is also great for using it to hide the flaws in your body. Generally color blocking will work best if you stick to the usual rules for your body shape. Apple shaped: avoid horizontal blocks around the stomach area; pear shaped: try darker shades on the bottom half. if you’re hourglass, color blocking around the waist accentuates your small mid figure. Although, when it comes to accessories keep it simple like this kid. Pairing it with colored accessories would throw the whole look off.

So whether your outfit consists of Salmon or Pink colored shades, put some color in your day instead of pulling for that neutral colored ensemble.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Blocking

When color block dresses arrived on planet fashion, I was pumped. I love solid colors, and I was very much into those styles with a mod two-toned vibe. Over the past few seasons, the trend has come a long way to include different variations in color blocking and in dress design (like this fabulous color block dress from Express). Today’s Fashionista wears one of the more unique styles, which includes a solid bodice with a patterned skirt. Paired with fun and original accessories, the color block dress takes center stage as Style Advice of the Week.

The cinched sweetheart halter top is a flattering and stands in stark contrast to the boxy structure of many color block dresses, creating a more feminine look. The bright salmon orange of the bodice and the sea green color of the skirt create a color base that is certainly bold and unexpected, but in a very good way. The skirt features a light pink and red floral pattern that really helps to tie the top and bottom together.

Today’s Fashionista pairs her dress with a great pair of peep toe sandals. STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Blocking with Maxi

The sun is shining and it finally feels like spring outside. Were taking out our sunglasses and sandals from the back of the closet and putting away our swing coats and fur until next winter rolls around next year. While a majority of our winter garb is being stored away, maxi dresses can still hang around this season.

Today's Fashionista wasn't ready to bare it all and took to the streets in her maxi dress.
