STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Splash

I’ve always wondered why most jeans come in the color blue, or to say the least, come in different shades and contrasts of blue when there are seven colors on the rainbow and hundreds of others on the color wheel. One trend I’ve been noticing amongst campus goers are colored jeans — finally!

I remember seeing the trend a while back, probably seven years ago, but it quickly disappeared. Luckily enough, it has made its return. The Fashionista shown above is wearing mint-colored jeans, the color everyone is currently loving, and a graphic shirt with abstract print.

Notice how some of the prints on her top are similar to the color of her jeans – a perfect match! With a daring piece like this, paying close attention to what colors you want your jeans to go with is essential because you wouldn’t want to come to class looking like you’ve just gotten out of a box of crayons.

To achieve other varieties of this look, try wearing it with a floral blouse or if you insist on putting on a shirt, add a vest to complement the look and add texture. Another way to sport this trend is to try out more colors — pink, yellow and mint being the hottest for this season.

On the other hand, if you want to play it safe, take baby steps and choose pastel colors over the ones that lean towards neon. Some jeans come in faded shades or ones that are nearing white yet still have a tint of color. Trends come and go while others do make a comeback so save up some of your favorite closet pieces even if they aren’t in this season because you can never predict what comes next in fashion!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Splash

As the sun starts rising and winter whispers disappear with the breeze, the fashionable rearrange their wardrobe and color palette. Although I have become a firm believer that black, white and gray will be all you'll ever need, in truth color really makes a wonderful difference. Neutrals will continue being a staple, but something vibrant in hues and shades always makes a statement. It's not about being a head to toe rainbow — have peek-a-boo color play against darker bases. Spring tends to offer a variety of mellow pastels and pieces that have a minty medicine essence. Living in a Sofia Coppola film is a dream but I think when it comes to color there should be a volume pump up. Go bubble electric in pieces that have a bit of edge, sex appeal and a breath of fresh air. This Fashionista donned an electric blue double breasted top, smartly paired with black denim and salt and pepper layering pieces. By adding a contrast it allows the blue to really have a voice. She looks stunning and urban-cool. Without the cardigan she is ready for a sunshiny day, an Eagles song in the background, and downtown as her playground.

You don’t just have to have the blues to get into the bright groove. Try a neon green tea dress paired with a rope belt and wooden heels. For looking sunkissed on Sunset try an orange pleated top with skinny white jeans and T-strap sandals. For ice cream at the Santa Monica Pier go for a bubblegum romper with oxfords and a dashing scarf. These pieces don’t even have to be full on ensembles. If you want minor hints, try exciting accessories. Go for a yellow shoulder bag to complement your chambray or turquoise heels to play with your seersucker shorts. In the end it’s all about color splashing your everyday with pieces that are vibrant and getting you ready for the spring sun.
