STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Your Wardrobe

Fall is all about color, color and more color. Just because it’ll be cold and dark outside doesn’t mean that the season’s color trends have to follow. Saturated red, pink, purple, cobalt blue, green and yellow were spotted going down the runways of many designer collections, adding a vivid contrast to the season's usual dark colors and neutrals. Jil Sanderalice + olivia and Blumarine were only  a few of the designers to do so. Wearing color, however, can seem like a daunting task for most of us. If you are uneasy about trying the electrifying color trend, start with just incorporating one piece of color that stands out. Bright Accessories such as a scarf, shoes, or clutch would be a great way to incorporate that pop of color. Bright Accessories such as a scarf, shoes, or clutch would be a great way to incorporate that pop of color without feeling too over the top.

This Fashionista does a great job wearing the color trend. The beautiful color of the shirt pops well. She kept the rest of the oufit black which makes the color pop that much more stunning. She looks confident in what she is wearing, and that makes it look that much more stunning. STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Your Wardrobe

It’s back to school for UMD and from the look of it everyone seems ecstatic to be here. Classes have been going on for only a week but students have not been holding back on looking stylish all over campus. Trends that were popular all summer long are making their way back to College Park, proving that styles are similar on a college campus as in the big city.

Our Fashionista this week showed off the colored denim trend. Even though sitting in class all day may be a little boring, if you are wearing something you are confident in it will make your day that much more exciting. Colored denim is a huge craze and is transitioning into fall. She is wearing purple denim jeans (which is the perfect shade for the end of summer and beginning of fall), but almost any color or style can be found at dELiAs. Colored denim is a simple way to add color to your look, so wearing a neutral top like this white fringe t-shirt is ideal. I like that her t-shirt has a fringed bottom because it adds some uniqueness yet is still simple. You could of course wear a plain cotton t-shirt or tank with your colored jeans, but a fringe shirt like this or maybe even a sheer top by KAIN Label are more fashion forward.

A way our Fashionista made this look more like a fall trend is by wearing black sandals and a black bag. She could have easily gone the summer route and paired her colored denim with some tan sandals, but adding the black was more fall forward. Another way to make this look less of a summer style is to wear a black top instead of white. Either color will do the trick, it just depends which season’s style you want to portray.

It has already been a great start to a stylish semester on the Maryland campus. Colored denim has been one of the biggest trends this summer and it’s great to see it continuing into the fall, too. I love that the fashion seen all over the big cities are noticably making their way out to College Park. Hopefully the weeks to come and the changes in temperature will bring about some styles we can all learn from and adopt for the fall semester.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Your Wardrobe

Jil Sander ought to be thankful that Raf Simons is their creative director because he has done an awfully good job at setting trends. Their spring/summer 2011 collections must have been their most memorable so far for two notable statements: the maxi skirt, which I wrote about last week, and everyone’s summer love, bright colors.

It is no doubt that bright colored pieces add so much personality to your wardrobe. Black, beige and white will always be in but incorporating eye-catching colors like fuchsia or apple green is one of a true fashionista’s favorite style surprises. Take a look at today’s Fashionista who nailed that style surprise! She matched her white sheer blouse with a pair of trousers in a beautiful shade of teal from her own shop, I Love Koi. Not only did the color make her creatively stand out but it made her legs look a mile long as well. She also tastefully accessorized her look with her brown belt, gold bracelet, and cute eyeglasses.

Although some people do admit that stepping out of the comfort zone of classic colors is daring, it is definitely worth a shot. Bright colors in your outfit – whether it be a colored top, a colored bottom, or colored accessories – attract people and make you look really fashionable. These ankle-cropped trousers from Zara in a striking shade of orange can be paired with a classic white top or a hot pink blouse. This double layer vest from Topshop in a delicious shade of aqua will go well with a black skirt or even red pants. Colors are beautiful and make life more exciting – many designers with their spring/summer 2011 collections reminded us of that. Embrace the color wheel!
