STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Colorful Crowns

In last week’s post "On the Bright Side", I discussed the re-appearance of color into college wardrobes and, in particular, the use of one bold hue to really amplify an entire look. This week’s Fashionista is no exception to that trend, as her bright emerald headband and canary yellow top set against a backdrop of neutrals caught my eye from a mile away.

There are so many things that I love about this outfit that perhaps make her my most memorable Fashionista yet. From the impeccable layering to the effortless, yet stylish, incorporation of several key accessories, this look is the epitome of classic taste with a modern twist. The one piece, however, that brings her look together is unquestionably her eye-catching headpiece. While I usually believe that large, decorative headbands should be reserved for the halls of Constance Billard (the fictional school that Blair Waldorf attended in Gossip Girl), this Fashionista shows how this look, originally made famous by the Prada turbans several years ago, can be taken into real life without looking silly. The secret is to balance it with some more basic items, as well as a nice amount of confidence.

So, if you want to add a little something extra to your everyday look, look no farther than a bright hair accessory. This fabric faux tie headscarf in coral from Urban Outfitters would look great paired with a white and beige outfit. I would also recommend this plain bow headband in green from Topshop, which would go well with an assortment of different colors. And, while this post is all about the accessory, it would be an injustice to not mention the leather jacket. I strongly believe that everyone should invest in one and, with spring right around the corner, what better color than a beautiful saddle brown. Some ones out there that I have my eyes on include this Vince motocross leather jacket from Shopbop or for something a little more budget-friendly, the Collection B waxy bomber from Nordstrom.
