STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Crochet Chic

As I’m sure I’ve made clear, I have a weak spot for bohemian-inspired fashion. I love all things with a whim of '60s and '70s style and I think some of the key pieces and materials from these free love eras will always serve as fashion muses for me. This Fashionista, for example, is rocking one of my most recent material obsessions— crochet. Crochet has been big lately, from pants to dresses, bandeaus to headbands, everyone wants a little hippie-chic splash added to their looks in the form of this chunky knit.

Today’s Fashionista chose to make her crochet piece the entirety of her outfit when she picked this amazing chunky dress. The detailed, knitted pattern clearly shows that this piece is of quality. The shape is loose without being too boxy for a true bohemian feel. I love everything about this dress, from the way she rolled the sleeves, to the cute scalloped edge. Having a dress like this is always helpful because it is such a statement that you have to do little other styling besides throwing it over your head. This dress by Quicksilver will lend you a similar look. For a sleeveless version try this crocheted dress by UNIF.

Today’s Fashionista styled her crocheted dress with simple black converse and some rounded John Lennon-inspired Ray-Bans for a hipster look. Her slouchy black bag is another great piece that gives the look a carefree flair. It can be worn in many different ways like across the body as pictured or without the strap and unfolded, holding it by the handles. This tote by Foley + Corinna is a much mimicked classic that will serve as a great investment piece.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Crochet Chic

I’ve been spotting crochet pieces left and right, so when this Fashionista was heading to the pool in my apartment complex I had to take a picture of her crochet cover up. I’ve been mentioning crochet looks in all my recent posts and it’s about time I dedicate a whole post to this perfect summer look.

Designers such as Alberta Ferretti and Emilio Pucci showed some amazing crochet looks for spring 2012. I also have been gawking over Etro's spring 2012 line that includes some jaw dropping spring/summer looks. As much as I would like to wear these styles right off the runway, my bank account doesn’t quite agree. Luckily fun crochet looks are universally in this season and any Fashionista can rock it on a budget.

A bright crochet crop top would be a great cover up for the beach, as well as this flowy crochet top from Forever 21. Both would look great over a swimsuit with denim shorts. The Forever 21 top would also look amazing for a day out with mint jeans. Another look I’ve spotted out shopping, as well as on numerous Pinterest boards are crochet shorts. Crochet shorts would easily transition from day to night and are super chic!

I also have been spotting lots of crochet accessories, like these lace-up heels at Ruche. If they were in my closet, one of the first things I would pair them with would be '70s inspired jewelry and denim dress. But you could wear these summer heels with literally anything! These heels would be an investment piece for any wardrobe.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Crochet Chic

What is more perfect for a warm spring day than a fun, floral-patterned crochet top? Crochet has made a recent come back and is a big spring trend this year. Often times, crochet has an older-women vibe but it has become a very trendy staple this time of year. With the variety of colors and styles that come in a crochet fabric, your options are endless. The details can be very intricate, a simple design usually with a floral pattern, or just criss-crossed lines.

Crochet mostly appears on tops, shorts and shoes. Last summer, TOMS shoes came out with a very popular crocheted pair in fuchsia, silver, black and natural. These are super cute and comfortable to wear to class, or just out and about. Since they have little holes in the fabric, it makes them breathable so your feet won’t get too hot. Another awesome pair of crochet shoes are the Jeffrey Campbell lita-mac lace-ups. I personally am obsessed with these shoes and they are a perfect statement shoe that’s a must have! As far as tops go, Forever 21 has a variety of crochet to choose from. There’s options with a little crochet or completely-crocheted tops to suit your taste. Any little bit will do! High-waisted shorts are an option as well. Free People makes a cute pair with a scalloped edge that would work dressed either up or down. So, if you don’t have any crochet, now is a great time to look for a piece or just add to your collection while it’s still hot!
