STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Denim Blues

Denim has always had a reputation for being easy and comfortable, but if you’re looking to update your usual go-to style try one of this season's hottest new trends — denim on denim. Because denim already comes in so many colors, washes and styles, this trend is an easy one to try from your current wardrobe!

The key to making this trend look modern and chic is to mix your denim washes and colors. Take a cue from this Fashionista who paired a medium wash denim shirt with a bleached pair of light wash denim shorts. Her style looks effortless and casual when her shirt is left unbuttoned with a simple tank underneath and casual sandals. She accessorizes her outfit with a chunky gold watch, delicate gold necklace and bright laptop sleeve. Her candy-apple red Marc Jacobs laptop sleeve gives a bright pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit. By keeping her accessories simple, the main focus is kept on her denim shirt and shorts trend, and that helps maintain a clean and chic appearance.

To achieve this look, try this studded shirt for added edge. You can also try pairing a denim top, like a vest or jacket, with a colored denim skirt. This trend can easily be translated into the colder months by swapping the shorts for your favorite pair of skinny jeans. A denim shirt with white skinny jeans can look polished and sophisticated with the right accessories.

This trend is easy for those summer to fall transition months and can be rocked with any denim pieces from your existing wardrobe. Just remember mix your denim colors and washes and you’ll be good to go!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Denim Blues

Do you ever have those days where you don’t necessarily want to dress up, but you want to appear put-together? Maybe you’ve got daily 8 AM's, a long day of classes or a night in the library; but one thing on your mind is being comfortably stylish for hours. This Fashionista was spotted on campus wearing the classic denim button up. You’ve probably seen this on your campus: the oversized rolled up sleeves denim look. The weather is fluctuating here in sunny Florida. One day it’s hot, the next day it’s chilly. So, what is a Fashionista supposed to do? This is where layering comes in handy.

This Fashionista was seen rocking a basic, burgundy tank top with a denim button-down top left open. The denim top acts as an outerwear, which can be easily removed in the afternoon when the sun is beating down on you. She paired it with high-waisted leggings from American Apparel (not seen due to un-tucked shirt) and the classic black combat boots. She tops the outfit off with a beany and the essential arm party. As a huge fan of the “arm party,” any Fashionista rocking it is a winner in my book.

A denim shirt is no different than any other button up shirt that you would typically wear with pants or trousers. Want to recreate the classic style? Wear your denim shirt tucked or un-tucked with fitted black pants or khakis. Another great look with a denim shirt is wearing denim with denim — something seen on a lot of celebrities lately. A clean cut long sleeved denim shirt from American Apparel would look fantastic with fitted khakis or corduroy pants. This Fashionista got her shirt from the local thrift store. So, if you are a conscious spender, head to your nearest thrift store and there will be multiple supplies of the denim shirt.

She rocked the classic, cool and collegiate — this is the perfect outfit to show effortless style while staying at ease!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Maximize Your Fashion

When the temperature is sizzling, surprisingly the outcome is hot summer fashion. The heat is certainly testing the fashion IQs of several students, and let's just say it makes my job very interesting. There are many "don'ts" on the streets, but overall the orange and blue campus is passing with flying colors this season. There are students who vividly impress me with their styles. I found this Fashionista coming out of study hall, and I must say she is definitely a straight A student in fashion.

I ran across this Fashionista and was intrigued by the coordination of her ensemble. A sleeveless denim top, paired with a tangerine maxi shirt, is definitely a must this season. She complements both trends with a beaded textile scarf, waist belt, and sandals. What's interesting about this look is how it transforms from western to bohemian chic. This can be quite a challenge when it comes to blending two contrasting style, but she certainly mastered it effortlessly.

If you want to take on the challenge of blending two styles, it's important to focus on distinctive elements that emphasize the style your going for. For instance, the tangerine maxi is an infamous characteristic of the bohemian style, so use it as a guide. To enhance this look, I would definitely add textile patterns, like this Fashionista did, in addition to feather accessories and bangles. Understand the maxi is your starting point, and the rest is up to your fashion instinct. Need more advice? Check out this helpful video guide  from Dulce Candy on how to style your maxi.
