STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dress It Up!

When getting ready in the morning Fasionistas are influenced by many things: weather, the days upcoming events, seasons and, perhaps, one of the biggest factors, mood. Tired calls for casual jeans, while rebellious may demand dark tones and a leather jacket. On a California summer day however, energetic Fashionistas should pull out their flirty summer dresses. Nothing can rival the arrival of a confident Fashionista dressed up in her favorite insta-chic item.

I was immediately drawn to this Fashionista because of her unique dress. The combination of lace and tulle made for an incredibly sweet and feminine look. She added a long hanging black vest over it which creates a great casual day outfit. She adds a pair of simple nude flats to keep the attention on the dress.

Achieving a similar look is all about finding the right dress. The fitted top of this particular dress and volume on the bottom give it a great silhouette (reminiscent of dresses from the '50s, with a higher hemline of course). This Urban Outfitters dress has the same feel while this collared button up dress has a fun geek chic element. Add a vest over top and accessorize with some long necklaces and you are set!

I also love both of the items on this Fashionista because of their versatility. Not only do they look great together but they can work great with other outfits as well. This dress could be worn with a graphic crop top and boots for a rebellious ballerina look, or try it with a long chunky sweater in the fall or winter. The vest can be worn to give a little excitement to a simple jeans and white T-shirt combination. It is a great item for a little extra coverage on a hot summer day.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dress It Up

I realize that the idea of wearing a dress to class might not blow your skirt up, literally. But who says they have to be floor length gowns or elegant formal wear? Sometimes all it takes is an effortless grab of a hanger to throw on that casual swingy dress and walk out the door rather than trying to mix and match tops and bottoms. And as the temperature is slowly starting to spike up the thermometer, what is more comfortable and practical than a loose, sleeveless dress?

This Fashionista, who was on her way to class, looked cool and casual in her floral frock. The sheer layer and empire waistline keep the dress from being too fussy, allowing this Fashionista to dart from class to class with no restrictions. But the best way to prevent a dress from appearing too formal for class is with accessories. Simple sandals, a cardigan for chilly classrooms and minimal jewelry keeps the ensemble feminine and fun without compromising comfort.

This spring is all about casual flouncy dresses, with designers such as Cynthia Vincent and Marc by Marc Jacobs leading the way. Still think it's too chilly to start donning dresses? A knit long sleeve number provides a perfect transition from the winter months. A swingy day dress can also easily transition from class to a night out with something as simple as a quick shoe swap and the addition of some key accessories. So whether you’re racing from class to class or just out for the day, slip on a casual dress and you’ll be ready for anything.
