Vintage stores are one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon. I know for me, I always seem to get lost in the stories behind each piece that I stumble across. Most people can identify a piece of vintage within a couple of moments of seeing it due to its classic aura and its somewhat out-of-place vibe. My favorite usage of a vintage piece is when it’s paired with something edgy and grungy. Naturally, when I saw this girl, I died.
I spotted this stunning Fashionista on her way to class on a rather chilly morning here, in Foggy Bottom. Instantly, I knew her jacket was vintage – the tan-yellow hue and the distinctive fit seemed to have just strolled out of the 1970s. It’s not something that you see everyday and the color really catches your eye. Additionally, I loved how she paired the jacket with the edgy skull printed blouse and black skinny jeans. She manages to make a statement without going over-the-top.
The central part of this look is, without a doubt, the fabulous vintage jacket. Despite its amazing look, such an item is very hard to find. When I spotted this Fashionista, it was the first time I had ever seen a jacket like it before. I’m sure it was the steal of a rare vintage store find. But never fear, there are plenty of other options! A more common vintage jacket that is sported is the bomber jacket. With this sort of jacket, you can really channel the edgy vibe. The other part of this outfit is the printed blouse and skinny jeans. Skulls make for an excellent pattern for blouses, but are also great in accessories like scarves or jewelry. If skulls aren’t your thing or if they feel a little too intense to you, try a more subtle print or a blouse with a studded collar. With skinny jeans, everyone looks and feels great as long as they are the right color and fit well, and what’s not to love about that?
This Fashionista’s look is refreshing to me because it’s not something that you see everyday. Some people may find it a little funky or different. To me, it's just flat out awesome.
