Well, here we are. The reality has set in: summer is over. Gone are the days of staying in your swimsuit until dusk, walking around barefoot without needing a reason and consuming one whole watermelon per week all by yourself (I like watermelon, okay?). The drudgery of days filled with classes and work combined with the tragic loss of beach-filled weekends has me in a borderline state of depression. Too dramatic?
When I spotted this Fashionisto on campus, I realized there could be a solution. Instead of just quitting summer cold turkey, why not slowly wean out of it? Even though we are saftely entering the beginning of September, this Fashonisto's linen shirt didn't feel out of place at all. In fact, it serves as the perfect transition piece. Paired with the basic chino short that will never be wrong and a pair of Vans, this Fashionisto gives off a relaxed, “I know how to dress myself” feeling. For all of you boys out there, this feeling should be what you are going for every time you get dressed in the morning. Think about it: this outfit could have gone devastatingly wrong. Wear that shirt with a pair of cargo shorts and flipflops and suddenly you've got yourself a dad who still addresses all your friends by “dude”.
So let's all take notes from this Fashionisto and keep some of our favorite summer pieces alive for at least a few more weeks. Just because summer is over doesn't mean we need to pack up our favorite sundresses and linen shirts and enter a state of mourning. Pairing the dress with a sweater and the shirt with the right pair of shoes will help create a smooth transition into fall. And if all else fails, just drink as many pumpkin spice lattes as possible and dream of Christmas daily; that usually works, too.
