For those who thought the time of maxi skirts and floral prints were long gone, think again. When I spotted this Fashionista I was impressed with how she managed to take two major summer trends and incorporate them so well into the fall season. Maxi skirts are one of my favorite items of clothing and I love how this Fashionista made hers cold weather appropriate. By keeping the color scheme dark and pairing it with a long sleeve shirt and cozy circle scarf she completely changed the vibe of her look.
I’m an avid fan of versatile pieces and I think that this skirt is the perfect example of that. It can move easily from summer to fall. By pairing it with a simple black tank, a top knot bun and some dangly earrings, the look has done a complete 180. When looking for pieces that can translate between seasons focus on having a neutral color palette and a lightweight fabric that can easily be layered up or down.
An even simpler approach to the versatile maxi skirt is the versatile maxi dress. A dress is much simpler to plan an outfit around; essentially for a summer look all you need to do is add some footwear, and for a fall look just throw a big, cozy sweater overtop and away you go. I really love this dress from ASOS; I can see it being worn in the midst of summer with a pair of gladiators and some sunglasses, but I can also see it in fall with some combat boots and a black knit sweater.
If maxi skirts aren’t your thing fear not, there are plenty of pieces that can be worn from season to season. Another piece that has a ton of versatility is a pair of silk shorts. This pair from Topshop is great because not only can it be worn in summer with bare legs or winter with tights, but it can also be dressed up or dressed down. For a day-to-night look, start off with a simple white blouse buttoned all the way up and a pair of tall black boots. When nighttime rolls around swap the boots out for some stilettos, add a statement necklace and away you go.
Versatile pieces are a great closet staple to invest in. Not only do they help you transition your style from season to season, but they can save a lot of space in your wardrobe as well.
