I spotted this Fashionisto after a weekend of celebrations. This Fashionisto was rockin’ a pair of specs that were screaming for attention and I had to stop and get a shot on my way to the library.

This season we have been seeing eyeglasses getting bigger and better with thicker frames that take things back to a different era when glasses were a representation of style and personality. Khloe Kardhasian Odom made these glasses look stellar when she rocked a pair of Chloe’s on an episode of Khloe and Lamar. Other celebrities like Anne Hathaway even rocked them on the red carpet this year, along with Joe Jonas and other A-list hotties like Justin Timberlake.

This trend has been taking the nation by storm and anyone can have a pair with companies like Warby Parker who create the look for a cool 95 dollars, prescription included. Better yet, for every pair of glasses you buy, Warby Parker donates a pair to someone in need. Who doesn’t love fashion with a cause?

Wearing big bold styles will get others attention, and can keep you looking put together and fashion forward on days when you are struggling to make it to the library or class. Wear them out with a blazer or cute dress and people will take notice.

So Lehigh Fashionistas/os, my STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK is to take things back a bit and rock these geek chic glasses as an ode to everything retro.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Geek Chic

Today’s world of fashion has embraced a particular style, which, in the past, has been considered far from popular. Geek chic is a term used to describe the influx of professional athletes sporting bow ties and countless stylish beauties donning black-rimmed glasses with questionable prescription levels. It’s as if the tables have turned and grandpa sweaters are the new varsity jackets. This Fashionista was spotted making her way through campus showing us just how trendy a nerd can be.

Her black pleated mini skirt and button-down combination screams classic schoolgirl. The deep denim shirt brings the look up to date and adds a touch of western influence when placed under her printed brown vest. My favorite part of the outfit, and perhaps the geekiest element, is the black cotton bow tie that fastens the collar of the shirt and ties the whole look together — pun intended.

There’s something that is just so charming about a bow tie. It is both classic and on trend and adds instant sophistication to any outfit. This Fashionista finishes off her look with a pair of classic gold-rimmed shades and a comfortable pair of moccasins.

Discover your inner nerd, Fashionistas, and capture this modern schoolgirl look for yourselves. If you want to stick to tradition, get yourself a black bow tie. Pair it with a white blouse, black bubble skirt, and a bold red lip — hello, bombshell! If you’re willing to have fun with color and print, change it up and see how many fun and interesting combinations you can create. Polka-dots and bold stripes is my personal favorite combination of the moment as are muted florals against creamy pastels.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly a simple clip of a tie (or succession of complicated loops and pulls, for those more advanced bow tiers) can transform an outfit from basic to fashion-forward. Geek has never looked so chic.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Geek Chic

It’s no surprise that “geek” fashion is coming back, and in a major way. Though perhaps pocket protectors and stereotypical Point Dexter fashion isn’t quite making a comeback, a bohemian twist on geek apparel is here. Jazz it up, and add your own personal touch to the outfit. Particularly on school campuses, when one might not want to put as much effort into an outfit, resorting to thick-rimmed glasses and a high bun is always a great option. It’s casual, yet still fashionable, and is a great option for a lazy Monday.

This week’s Fashionista is a great example of easy, comfortable geek chic. She sports a pair of thick-rimmed glasses (similar to styles seen in Mad Men), a rolled-up, striped sweater, a pair of green, worn jeans and a simple pair of woven sandals. To perfect her outfit, she is wearing a colored rope bracelet, and orange nail polish. She manages to incorporate a bohemian feel to her geeky outfit, making her stand out among the other geek wannabes. Her ensemble is easy, yet still embodies her own personal style.

Looking to sport some geek chic in your life? Try a pair of these glasses. Though you may not need glasses, there are plenty that are not prescription and add an instant flair of geek to one’s outfit. Want a simple outfit? Try a pair of simple, high-waisted skinny jeans, with a printed boy T-shirt. To complete the outfit, add an interesting heel or wedge to add some more femininity to the outfit. Add a messenger/clutch bag and accessorize with your favorite bracelets, and you now have a perfect geek chic outfit. Don’t be afraid to try something different; play around with different tops, pants and glasses!

You don't need to change up your entire wardrobe; mix it up and customize the clothes you already own. Play with different colors, prints and fabrics to add originality to a nerdy outift. So I suppose the saying is true – geeks and nerds will one day rule the world. Their fashion is trending, and everyone seems to want a piece of their action.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Geek Chic

Take a moment and think all the way back to your high school years. There are probably a few people from your graduating class that stand out clearly in your mind; maybe a few of them can be stereotyped into a specific category. For instance, every high school has the typical jock and the typical nerd or “geek.” Most of the time the word geek reminds me of the kids from the T.V. show Freaks and Geeks or the adorable Paulie Bleeker from the movie Juno. In T.V. shows and movies, these geeks are usually portrayed as socially awkward, never being able to fit in. However, nerds are finally getting their day in the sun, as the fashion world gradually makes geek look chic!

Today’s Fashionista completely embodies geek chic with her adorable turtle shell glasses. She ties it all together with statement sneakers, skinnies, and a coat and jacket that are perfect for the brisk autumn weather. What helps our Fashionista pull off this daring look is how she balances her glasses with casual attire, making her entire ensemble look effortlessly chic.
