STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Go Bold or Go Home

Call me crazy, but I have never really been into matchy-matchy fashion. Not that it should never be done, I just see myself as more of the add-something-bold-to-throw-my-look-off type. Fashion IS supposed to be fun, so no matter what, I always try to incorporate something different. Like the time I wore bright red lips and pumps to a funeral or when I added a bright blond skunk stripe, as my mother likes to call it, to an already wild Mohawk. I mean really, who does that?

Experimenting with colors and/or mixing and matching prints is definitely not for the faint of heart, especially when you consider how easily it can go wrong. This week`s Fashionista however, was able to capture both aspects while staying true to her free spirited style. I was immediately drawn to her electric blue crossbody purse from Danier. Not only does this vibrant purse bring the whole ensemble together, but it gives a relatively neutral outfit a bold and unexpected punch! An off-white fedora and vintage blue dress prove that when done correctly, mixing and matching floral can and does work — even if the prints aren`t from the same family. A faux suede belt to add shape and sandals from Stepss complete this boho-chic look.

As we bid farewell to my favorite season and welcome fall with open arms, it is important to remember that no matter how sad we may be to see the flashing brightness of summer fade away, making a bold statement will never be out of season.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Go Bold or Go Home

Contrary to popular belief, a maxi dress doesn’t always necessitate delicate prints or subdued colors. Yes, it’s a large expanse of material to showcase a busy pattern. But if done right, it’s sure to make a fashion-forward statement. Taking cues from the spring runways of some of the experts in bold fashion (ahem, Cynthia Steffe and Diane von Furstenberg), this Fashionista donned a simple cotton maxi with a fun graphic pattern. The X-shaped print covers most of the skirt, while the top and bottom feature stripes of contrasting colors and patterns. To add an extra bit of coverage and tame the print, the Fashionista added a slouchy gray vest.

Copy this Fashionista’s style with a bold maxi topped with a cover-up of sorts until the weather permanently heats up. Try a black and pink number with a belted chunky knit and strappy heels for a sweet date ensemble. Go for a casual striped dress (with pops of tangerine — this season’s hottest color) and a white scarf on a long day of classes. Or, pair a loose maxi with an oversized cardigan for a late-night walk on the beach. Since you’ll be calming the pattern with a neutral on top, don’t shy away from bright colors or in-your-face prints. Go bold or go home.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Go Bold or Go Home

One thing all Fashionistas can agree on is that standing out is a must. Adding a little extra “pop” to your outfit is what we all truly aim for. Such the perfect way to achieve this mission is to wear bold colored jeans. So if you thought that color jeans were going out after summer, think again because these absolutely amazing pants are rolling into fall.

Jeans are such an essential part of anyone’s fall wardrobe. This fall staple doesn’t need to be your typical blue jeans. It’s time to go bold and sport a colored pair. Colored jeans are the perfect way to stand out, be trendy and feel completely confident! If you’re hesitant about wearing an atypical hue, then keep it simple and wear a plain white or black tee. However, if you are ready to wear these jeans in full force, try color blocking and wear a bold color top in conjunction with the jeans.

Today’s CollegeFashionista is looking fabulous in her red denim. She apparently got the memo that this fall, shades of reds and oranges are major, especially when it comes to denim. She looks effortless by wearing a plain white top, but still shows her true Fashionista colors by wearing the dyed denim.

Looking for the perfect color jeans? My personal favorites are JBrand’s colored denim because not only do they have an incredible fit, but they come in tons of colors as well. Not to mention they are a comfortable material- what a plus! Gap also makes a variety of colored jeans that are sure to keep you styling this season. Lastly, if you are following the burnt orange trend of the fall, try these ones by Rag & Bone– they are such a hot hue!

Don’t forget, jeans do not have to be blue!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Go Bold or Go Home!

If you were to ask any of my friends what my favorite color is they would quickly respond with black. Personally, I think black is the most flattering color, and let’s be honest, nothing is classier then the little black dress. However, after seeing this stunning Fashionista I must say my opinion has changed. For the rest of the summer I suggest trading in your black pieces for bold bright colors. Summer is fun and carefree so I recommend your outfits reflect this mentality. I hate to be a traitor to my favorite color, but black can be a little harsh. Save it for the winter months. Now is the time to have fun, and experiment with crazy bold hues. I also really like how this Fashionista paired her beautiful blue dress with tan colored heels. The tan shade looks great on her skin tone, and is also a nice alternative to black footwear. Once again save the black shoes for the fall and winter seasons!

Another great thing about this dress is the peacock feathers on the front. Everywhere I look feather accessories are being worn. This dress is not only cute, but incorporates this feather trend. Want to put together an outfit similar to this one? Try a bold color dress paired with feather earrings! Speaking of accessories I admire the way this Fashionista mixed a delicate silk dress with a less delicate, chunky, chain bracelet. This combination is very cool, and I recommend trying for a night out.
