STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Go Sleeveless

It's summertime, don’t be afraid to show a little skin, boys! Suzy Menkes, fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune and writing to us straight from the Paris runways for the New York Times, picks up on this trend, too. She says, “The Dior Homme … summer collection had … some of the jackets sleeveless, which is a major trend of the season.” Menkes also spots the sleeveless trend for men on the Maison Martin Margiela and Acne runways.

Despite the obviously missing part, sleeveless shirts can be styled just like their sleeved counterparts, making them an easy trend to pull off. This Fashionista wears an American Apparel fine jersey tank, backwards floral Huf hat and basic black-and-white Converse sneakers.

It's time to take the sleeveless shirts out of the gym and into your everyday lives. G by Guess has a great and affordable selection of men's sleeveless apparel, from tank tops to hoodies. If you want to keep the look sporty and lightweight, check out Nike's Pro Combat Hypercool sleeveless shirt, which can even be customized with NIKEiD.

Girls, this trend is for you, too! Celebrity-Gossip.net recently spotted mini-Kardashian and Fashionista Kylie Jenner out to lunch with her sister in Woodland Hills, California sporting a gorgeous and unique gray sleeveless blouse. Tops like this can be dressed up for work with black slacks or a pencil skirt and just as easily dressed down with a billowy white skirt like Jenner's.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Go Sleeveless

So far April showers have brought great style to the Midwest. Even though it was a gray, overcast afternoon when I spotted these fashion forward friends, they managed to look cool and casual with their sleeveless denim vests.

On her: this Fashionista combined a trendy high-low hemline dress with biker shorts for a little extra coverage. Her lace-up boots are both comfortable and help keep feet dry in case an April shower sporadically begins. The dark color scheme of her outfit helps give some edge to an otherwise super feminine dress. Layering a jean vest over girly pieces like skirts and dresses is a super simple way to add an element of updated grunge to your look.

On him: this Fashionisto wears a sleeveless chambray shirt over a graphic tee. Graphic tees are a great item to invest in because they look great alone and also provide a great jumping off point for a layered look. Notice how he cuffed the bottoms of his pants because that is a great way to preserve the fabric from getting trampled on if you are a shorter Fashionisto. Simple sneakers top off this grunge look.

If you like grunge but don’t want to look straight out of the '90s, definitely try adding a denim vest to your outfit. Ladies, head on over to Madewell for a great light wash denim vest. Guys, Urban Outfitters carries a nice dark wash version by Levi's.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Go Sleeveless

Spring is right around the corner and it’s time to step out from behind the thick sweaters and finally show some skin…nothing too risqué’ of course! This week’s Fashionista is a fashion major I found leaving campus after a day of classes. She has the right idea with a bold, sleeveless button-up blouse from Nordstrom, which she pairs black shorts and a beautiful, gold statement necklace from Urban Outfitters. She finishes the outfit off with a pair Lucky Brand flats.

Button ups aren’t just for the office anymore. The sleeveless button up has put what was once an office-only look on the top of the spring must-have list. Not only are these shirts loose and comfortable but they come in many different styles. This CollegeFashionista is wearing a tunic style button up while there are others such as the tie-front button up and the high-low hem button up. The tunic button up look is portrayed perfectly by this Fashionista but can also look great when worn with leggings and flats for a relaxed look. When amping up this look for a night out, I recommend pairing it with a skirt and pumps to give you that extra “wow” factor.

Don’t forget to accessorize whether it be a statement necklace with stud earrings or a long chain with eccentric earrings. You always look your greatest when you don’t just copy a trend straight from a magazine but incorporate it into your own personal style. Now all you have to do is figure out how you’re going to make the sleeveless trend your own. Have fun!
