STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Going Green

Military-inspired fashion is having a big moment right now, making army green one of the hottest shades of the season. MaxMara, Threeasfour and Topshop Unique all filled their fall runways with this new neutral. You'll find this versatile shade in every Fashionista's closet this winter. The color has something to offer everyone, from the most girly of girls to the rough and tough Fashionista.

This week’s Fashionista goes for a subtle military reference in her light, army green denim, an airy white blouse and gray riding boots. The mix of neutrals creates a soft, feminine look, challenging all assumptions that military-inspired fashion has to be masculine and rugged.

Green has never really made a big splash in the fashion world, but this surprisingly neutral shade is everywhere right now, and there are tons of ways to wear it. One great thing about this color is that its military influence can add just the right amount of edge to your look without it being overpowering. With this shade it’s all about what you pair it with. Wear this sheer blouse with black jeans or leather leggings for a chic nighttime look. Or layer this button-up over your favorite graphic T-shirt and pair with jeans and ankle boots for a casual, everyday look. For a little more color, try these army green skinny jeans from ASOS. Top these off with a cream, lace top to add a feminine touch or go for a simple, chambray button-up. My favorite piece this season is an army green anorak, like this one from NASTY GAL. This super versatile jacket looks great with jeans for a day of classes or thrown over a dress for a night out.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Going Green

I spotted this Fashionista through this snowy weather due to the fact that there are so many things about this outfit that I adore. Starting at the top, this Fashionista is rocking the knot bun. This trend is very European, making me love it more. In my opinion, the higher the bun the better and this hairstyle is an easy and stylish fix to a bad hair day. Moving down, this Fashionista is wearing an oversized cream sweater (which I want), green pants, and leopard flats. This sweater is the perfect go-to-class item being as it is oversized but still flattering, and comfortable but still stylish. Furthermore, these pants speak for themselves. I have constantly been on the search for a pair of colored pants. This color green is to die for, so I may take a note out of this Fashionista’s book and purchase a pair in a similar color. Lastly, from my previous posts everyone knows that I love some cheetah print in an outfit. Therefore, these flats are the perfect choice to add something special.

These pants have also made quite the splash on the runway. Fall 2011 collections have included pants in colors ranging from pink to green to blue to yellow. Specifically, Karen Walker’s fall 2011 collection featured a pair of drawstring blue pants. I would wear these pants in a heartbeat. They are a little higher waisted and loose, which is super flattering on any body type. Additionally, Phillip Lim’s fall 2011 collection presented three pairs of green pants all cropped above the ankle. Two were classically tailored and one was constructed of a silky looser material.  All three reconfirm my love for color in a pant. Just as Karen Walker and Phillip Lim demonstrated in their collections, color does not have to be constricted to above your waist. This week’s Fashionista takes this runway look to the streets and in my opinion pulls it off effortlessly.

Grab some colored pants and add a little flavor to your wardrobe!
