STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Half Tucked and Hip

Every season, I look towards magazines such as Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar for their forecast of trends just like every other Fashionista/o. The most exciting part about following trends is being able to add a unique piece to your closet and inventing new ways of how to wear it with pieces that you already own. Unfortunately, as a college student, following trends can be expensive. I think it’s safe to say that not all of us are able to incorporate six or eight rising trends into our wardrobe for four seasons. While magazines are a great source of inspiration for what is up and coming, I generally enjoy reading style books to research timeless trends that never go out of style. In many of the books I have read, there is always a chapter dedicated to the essentials that every Fashionista needs in her closet.

Earlier this week, I came across a Fashionista on campus that had two of these pieces! According to the books, or as I like to call them, style bibles, a white button up shirt and a pair of black fitted pants are two key items that every Fashionista should have in her closet. It is the epitome of an outfit that represents both class and style. What I love about this outfit is how this week’s featured Fashionista decided to incorporate another trend that I have been reading about in the magazines and on blogs, which is the half tucked shirt. On this Fashionista, the white J.Crew linen shirt paired with fitted, black Urban Outfitters pants gave her a casual yet classic look for the spring. To add just a pop of color, she accessorized her outfit with a combination of bracelets with gold, maroon and turquoise accents. This week’s featured Fashionista informed me that in addition to the white linen shirt that she is wearing in the photo, she also has another button up that is more crisp and structured. I thought that her white linen shirt was perfect for the overcast Seattle day that we were having and casual enough for an everyday outfit. My favorite classic white button ups for the season are J.Crew's silk sophie blouse, Madewell’s waterfall top and C&C California’s voile/jersey roll-tab shirt.

Hint: For warm spring and summer days, opt for white shirts similar to this week’s Fashionista. Lighter fabrics such as linen and silk will keep you cool and breezy.
